I recently bought a new laptop to support the home computer and decided to buy a 'Belkin ADSL2+Modem with Wireless G Plus MIMO router' to network them together. The network worked fine untill i decided to also add an xbox360 to the network through the microsoft wireless adapter. All the computers -xbox included- can find the wireless network all the time but when trying to connect either the laptop or the xbox can only connect to the internet when the other is allready on. The problem seems to switch between the two depending on which one was last connected to the internet. Resetting the router allows them to connect again but only untill they are turned off. Belkin tech support dont know what is cuasing this. Can anyone else help.
This sounds as if either the router is not set at enable DHCP which gives your pc's and x box an automatic assigned ip address, so check in the routers settings via your web browser that DHCP is enabled, also go to your wireless network card and go to the properties, select the TCP/IP line, click properties again and make sure automatically obtain ip address is ticked, ok and close window. Do the same with the Xbox in the network settings and make sure that automatically obtain ip address is highlighted and automatic DNS is set. Lastly make sure non of the pc's network setup is set in a way that other pc's connect to the internet through this computer type set up, they should all be set up using the network wizard using the 'this computer connects to the internet through a gateway' setup, which is your router, but if your laptop is Vista, then everything should have set up automatically when a connection to your router was found. Lokk in the routers DHCP clients and look to see if all your pc's and the Xbox is listed and given IP addresses.
Do you have DHCP enabled on your PC? Sounds like you are not getting the IP address.
