Your laptop still insists on using the old password that's why it can't connect. Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Networks. Select your router's SSID. Right click on it and change Properties > Security > Show characters. The old password that you forgot should appear. You may then change it to the latest one.

You may also click on the wifi signal icon on the lower right corner of your Taskbar, right click on the router's SSID, select Properties > Security > Show characters to reveal the old password you forgot and change it to the latest one.

NETGEAR wnr2000v3 router not accepting default password after reset

I have the same problem but can not even log in for the 1st time. admin and password do NOT work. And when I checked the ip address w/ the ipconfig /all aomand in a command prompt, I found that it has ip address 192.168.5.1 So when I tried to log in to that page, it prompted me for a user & password. Again, admin and password did NOT work. Also, tried 1234 for the pasword with no luck. Is this box defective??

Press the reset button on the router and hold it for about 10 seconds then the password should be removed or restored to the default one. You will lose all your settings.

I can't get in to the site where I can change my password. Even though I typed "admin" (without the quotes) I still can't access. What should I do. :(

There is a button on the back of the router that resets it to factory settings; once you press that (or hold it down for 6 or so seconds), you can try logging in with the default username and password (usually both are admin)

Can`t remember the default password

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.2.1, the Default password is blank

If you have questions just let me know. Thanks for using Fixya

Password

Are you trying to access the router set up.
There is not default user name for the router. Keep it blank. the default password will be " admin ". If that doesn't work the router password must be changed. Try some of your passwords and see if that opens the set up page. If nothing is woirking then you will need to reset the router and set up the router again.

Can't login with password

Perhaps someone has hijacked your router. It is possible if you never changed the default login information for your router and it was unsecured. If there's a reset button on the router, try to press it for 15 seconds to reset the router to default settings. It might be a small depressed hole in the bottom/back of the router that you have to push with a pen or opened paper-clip.

Once it's reset, do the following:
  1. Open your web browser
  2. Enter "192.168.0.1" (without quotes) in the address bar
  3. When prompted for the password, you're either going to enter "admin" for a username (without the quotes) and "password" as the password (without quotes), or "admin" (without quotes) and the password of "1234" (without quotes).
  4. Once in, navigate to some type of administration options and change the username/password for your router. Be sure to write them down so you don't forget.

Safe belkin

connect to router
access router by inserting it's address into address bar
-- if you don't know address, open command prompt and perform "ipconfig /all" command, without quotes, at the flashing cursor

the router ip address is equal to the default gateway/dhcp server address, usually 192.168.x.x

once logged into router, after successfully entering the username/password, you can secure router by changing the default password for accessing the router interface and any other setting you feel needs to be changed.

Access my password

If you mean the password to login to the router, it is usually "admin" for the username, and "password" for the password, without the quotes, of course. Some of the various versions stray from this standard, so if that does not work, let me know the version.

If you set a password that you can not remember, you only alternative would be to reset the router using the reset button on the back, and then log on and reconfigure it.

If you mean the Encryption key to setup a laptop to access the internet via the router, just log in using the info above, and go to the Wireless Security settings page. This will list the encryption key - though some routers only show a row of dots, instead of the actual key. If this is the case you can at least change the key, note what you are changing it to, and you can then type in that key when connecting to the access point from the computer.
