SOURCE: system backup

depending on what drive it is. Let's say it's a western digital, They all have software on there websites to copy a drive to a new drive. in westerd digitals case it would be www.wd.com and in the support downloads section you would find the software.

You would have to hook up both drives and tell it which you drive you want to copy from (old drive) and to (new drive)

SOURCE: Need a driver for USB2 external hard drive to work with Win98SE

1) the device should have come with install software, use that. if you dont have it try these ->

2) plug it in and go into the Device Manager,
Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager

it might be "unknown" but if it's in there click on it, click on "Install Driver". it will ask you to let it search the web for a driver. allow it to do so. it may or may not find one.

3) OR go to the manufacturers web site and look for the SUPPORT link. you should be able to make your way to the drivers section. they may have one for you.

If these dont work --
What is the make model etc of the device, all the numbers please.
and please gimmie your pc info. make model processor , os, etc

Let me know :)

Why are wanting to clone your hard drive to another on when all you need to do is install Windows 7 directly onto the new hard drive?

How do I backup itunes file on external harddrive

It's a good idea to regularly back up all important files on your computer to an external source to prevent data loss. Your iTunes music, videos and other digital downloads are stored in separate files within the iTunes folder. However, if you consolidate them into a single folder, it's easier to back them up to an external hard drive.

Launch iTunes. Go to the program's Preferences menu. Click the "Advanced" tab. Check the box next to "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" and click "OK." Click "File." Select "Library" and then "Organize Library." Check the box next to "Consolidate Files" and click "OK." Close iTunes. Connect your external hard drive to your computer. Find the iTunes media folder on your computer's hard drive. Drag the folder to the icon for your external drive to copy your iTunes media.

Restoring your iTunes Library backup

When you need to restore your backed up iTunes Library from your external hard drive to your computer, follow these steps:

Quit iTunes.
Locate your external hard drive.
Mac: On the Desktop or Finder sidebar.
Windows: In My Computer

Drag the iTunes folder (backed up earlier) from your external hard drive to whatever location you desire on your internal hard drive. It is recommended that you choose the default location for the iTunes folder, which is:

Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
Windows Vista or Windows 7: \Users\username\My Music\
Open iTunes while holding down the Option key (Mac) or Shift key (Windows).

In the resulting dialog, click the Choose Library button.

Select the iTunes folder you just moved to the internal hard drive.
Click Choose.

Make a back up of your music on an external Hard Drive or Flash Drive

Copy iTunes folder to your external hard drive
To copy all the items in your iTunes library (including the iTunes Library file that holds all your playlists, playcounts, ratings, and other data) to your external hard drive, follow these steps:

Quit iTunes.
Locate your external hard drive.
Mac: On the desktop or Finder sidebar.
Windows: In My Computer
Locate your iTunes folder:
By default, the iTunes folder is located in:
Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
Windows Vista or Windows 7: \Users\username\My Music\
If the iTunes folder is not in the default location listed above then you can find where the iTunes folder is located by following these instructions:

Open your iTunes Preferences:
Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.
Click Advanced.
The location of your iTunes folder will be listed in iTunes Media folder location box, as pictured below.

Drag the iTunes folder to your external hard drive. This can take a while if you have a lot of items.

When the transfer is complete, your iTunes Library will have been successfully copied to your external hard drive.

Trying to drag all files from itunes into lacie 250 g design by porsche hard drive and it won't let me.

Thank you for asking your question with FixYa Support.

I am not sure what type of computer you have that your LaCie is connected to, but first and foremost, make sure the external hard drive has been properly formatted to work with the operating system your computer has.
For Windows computers: the LaCie should be formatted in either FAT32 or NTFS (recommended- more secure).
How to Format a HD in Windows Vista
For Mac computers: the LaCie should be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format.
How to format an external hard drive in Mac OS X

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your LaCie is already formatted, then the best way to import your entire iTunes library from the internal hard drive of your computer into the LaCie, especially if you are unable to drag and drop the library into you LaCie, is to try a simple copy and pasting of the ENTIRE iTunes folder from its home on your computer to the LaCie hard drive.

You can also use the website I like to reference which provides some good alternatives to effectively migrating your iTunes Library from a PC or Mac to your external hard drive:

Here is that support link:

(also included in this article, are external hard drives)

For sake of space, I want you to review this article, because I not only agree with its content, it is exactly what I would explain to you as well in a more condensed, easy to follow fashion.

I hope I have helped guide you well on your question.

Yes there is. I can tell you an easy way. Here is what you need to do. Go into the second hard drive. And make a folder and title it anything you want. Then put all of the itunes songs in that folder. Once you do that then open up itunes. And click file add folder to library and select that folder from the hard drive.
