The agitator at the bottom is working fine... the one at the top is loose and will not "grab" to keep form spinning backwards. There is no hold on it to keep it only going in a clock wise motion. It can spin counter clockwise motion. I believe everything else is working perfect.

The agitator has four small teflon (I believe) plastic grips inside the upper portion called "agitator dogs". They have small teeth on them to grip the inside ring of the agitator. You can replace them for less than $10 for a pack of 4. Your local appliance repair shop should carry them, or be able to order them for you. Let me know if this helps.

THIS IS A TYPICLE PROBLEM . BETWEEN THE MOTOR & THE TRANSMISSION THERE IS A COLLECTOR ASSEMBY (THREE PIECE
SET) REAL EASY TO GET TOO EASY TO FIX . ALSO COST EFFICENT
suppose to not spin unitl the lid is closed( safety reasons) the reason for the "weak agitation " is a bad set of agitator dogs. by removing the center fabric softener cup, you can get to and unscrew the center shaft bolt7/16. after removing the bolt, the agitaor will remove and the agitator dogs canbe replaced. part number 80040.youll need to split the agitator top and bottom to insall them . they simply slide into place.
The purpose of the upper portion of the agitator is to push the clothes in a downward motion. As the agitator moves the dogs grab and on the backward srtroke the top portion rotates a quarter turn. In the spin mose the agitator only goes in one direction or your clothes would be torn to shreads. As the washer rotates back and forth, the dogs grab the inner walls of
the upper agitator and that forces the clothes into a downward movement
to the bottom of the tub. These dogs will wear out. To test whether or
not these are bad just grab the agitator while in wash mode. The dogs
should advance the top portion easily. If not then they are worn out.
To replace them you must remove the agitator and sit it on the floor.
Hold the base down with your feet and yank the top upwards. After
seperating the 2 pieces you simply install the new dogs and line up the
bottom with the top being careful not to break the little tabs on the
bottom agitator that hold the top in place.
