I have a NV-DS50 Panasonic video camera and when I turn it on, the power light flashes and then after about 10 seconds or so, the recorder sometimes turns off. Also when it is turned on, there is a red rectangle shape that has a diagonal line through it that flashes on the screen. The camera won't play back, rewind, etc or record (depending on mode) at all. I have charged the internal and external batteries, but to no avail. I have noticed others have this same problem, but there have been no solutions posted. Please someone help me.

Remove bottom plate by unscreewing the 7 screews (for one of them you must open the viewfinder) and make sure the ribbon
cables are connected securely . You just need to push genty the ribbon cabbles and reposition the plate, this should solve

same problem, my nv-ds50 powers up, but with the with power light flashing in twos and then powers itself down. The menu button sometimes works briefly when it's powered up. I had been transferring video back to mini dv tape from the pc (pinnacle studio 8) when I first encountered the problem and was wondering if I damaged something in the camera by powering up/down in the wrong sequence using my firewire cable?? I also seem to have a lower case "f" to the right of the timecode when it powers up - & cannot find any documentation as to what that could mean (although perhaps it's a "t" for timecode?)...I tried the c.reset option in "display setup" a few minutes ago - no luck then...but hey bingo, now I seem to have it back on line again ...go figure!
