Machine spins in Power Temp Boost mode only

At some point, my WFR 2460 stopped doing spin cycle. Instead of spinning, it would simply slowly rotate for some time. It happens in all cycles except Power Temp Boost, which works perfectly fine. I'm a novice, so visual inspection of the machine, after removing top and back, did not provide any clues. Belt seems to be tight enough. I saw one comment that there is a button on the back to reset electronics. Does it apply in my situation? Could someone help?

    Thanks for quick response!

So if the motor needs servicing, why would the washer spin at 1200rpm, in Power Temp Boost mode, but would not in other modes with 600, 800, or 1000rpm? Just curious.

And what kind of motor service might be required, replacing cacrbon brushes maybe? How can I get a hint what is wrong with motor by looking, listening etc? What pictures do I need to post?

    Thanks again!

I've got an electrical schema for the washer. Would it help if I post a picture of it?

Your motor has a speed tachometor on it.Im looking at my training manual and your specific model is not listed, but the RPM's should be the same. 400-1200. it is a 3 phase motor that the speeds are controled by a separete motor controller.it is located in the right rear of the washer. the thing you need is the test program for the motor.the codes will tell you if the controller or the speed sensor or even the motor is bad. Im not sure if it is someting you might find online.but also somewhere in the washer is a tech sheet try and find it that will give you all the info you need to run the motor test and what the codes mean.it removethe top and locate it. it will save you time and money by telling you what the problem is. hope this helped you some. good luck

Here is the link to the user manual if you need it; http://www.bshextranet.com/files/techtoolbox/WFR2460uc-ii.pdf I couldn't find anything in the book about the reset - you might. If that doesn't enlighten you at all, then i would suspect a motor that needs servicing - get any electric motor guy to have a look - shouldn't be expensive to look but parts might cost a little bit more if needed. please ask again if you need more help, or please post back with a couple of internal photos if you want more accurate help to talk you through doing it yourself if you prefer. :)

You have a point about the motor being fine in the one mode, sorry i missed that to start with.

Have been looking for more possibilities especially the reset as you suggest but no luck yet - will try again in the next day or two.

If you can get to it easily, a photo or two of the circuit board just behind the controls may show something up - I'm thinking perhaps a degraded capacitor or similar which is dropping the available voltage on some programs - I'm thinking that each spin program uses a different relay or similar to take power from a different loop on the transformer for different voltages hence speeds, so they each have a separate physical circuit - maybe a long shot that a photo would show anything, but it could be worth a try.

I'll let you know anything else I come up with within a couple of days at most :)

could do - post it and let's see. Any chance of a photo of the main control board also?

    I found nothing else yet.

Spin speeds

I thought I had replied to this post before, however, you should have a button on the control panel showing 600 or 1200.
Just press the button for the correct spin speed.
Please rate my solution.
Thanks.

Will not spin, therefore will not drain

Hey Joe,
Let’s check to see if the wash basket will rotate CCW in Spin Only Cycle with no clothes in the wash basket
1. Open the lid and rotate the wash basket by hand Counter Clockwise, CCW. The wash basket should rotate freely with no restriction. The wash basket will not rotate Clockwise, CW by hand.

2. Raise the top of the machine. Insert a flat blade putty knife approximately 2.5” from the left and right sides of the washer top, depress the spring tabs securing machine top to the washer base. Raise the top of the machine to observe the wash basket and tumbler action described in step 3. (See page 33 of the Service Manual for putty knife insertion point).

3. With the top raised start a Spin Only cycle with no clothes in the wash basket, observe the wash basket it should begin to rotate CCW does it?. Watch the tumblers, they should not rotate in spin cycle (maybe ½ turn at the start of spin cycle and that’s all). If the tumblers rotate while the wash basket is rotating you have a clutch malfunction. If the basket does spin CCW and the tumblers are rotating then you have a broken clutch spring. Let do those checks and observations and see what the next troubleshooting steps will be. Rich

Washing machine won't spin or rotate

Sounds like the motor brushes need replacing, you will have to remove the motor to do this.
Hope this helps.
