Probably have to get the laser replaced as long as all the mechanics are working to load the disc.

SOURCE: Sony CDP-C225 will not read or play cd's

Try running a "Laser Lens Cleaner" thru it, preferrably one that uses fluid. You can purchase one at just about any retail store for 15-20. Good to have and great preventative maintanance. If that does not work, you need a new transport, they do not repair or align lasers. Too expensive. The replacement is 100-150 with labor and a new one is under 200. My suggestion would be if the cleaner does not work replace it and keep the new one clean. CD/DVD/PC etc. all can and should be cleaned 3 or 4 times a year. Best preventative maintanance you can do. Hope this helps

SOURCE: I have a 5 disc

It needs a new laser, also called an optical eye.Since you cleaned it and that did not help, definitely. If the optical eye is bad,no disc will read and it will do just as you described, search and search all day.Probably close to $100 minimum to send it somewhere and have it fixed. When I was doing repair about 12 years ago,the eye alone was about $60.The shop normally has a parts price markup of 20%,then S&H and labor.I looked for a more accurate price on a few sites but couldn't find one.Optical eyes are somewhat universal though so they should be able to do something somewhere. Here is Sony.Good luck,Greg

On my CDP-CX300 It will not play comes up with "Disc loading error" on the display, turntable and loading mechanism seems labored suspect power problem ? any suggestions ?

1. Chances are real good that the laser lens has gone out or is too weak to read the disk. It's a maticelous procedure to calibrate a laser lens. It may just need to be replaced.
2. The labored mechanism is due to the belt in the disk drive being dirty or stretched out. With this the mechanism can't inject far enough for the laser assembly to come up properly far enough for a good laser alignment therefore giving you the disk read error. You can clean these drive belts with alchohol and put them back in. While it's out check the belt for cracks. If there are any replace it. Or if it seems stretched out, which you can tell when it's around the pulleys, replace it. This belt is located in the front and under side of the disk drive assembly.
I've had the same problem with Xbox360 drives and the above solutions worked out quite well. But I haven't worked on one of these devices yet.
3. As a last thought. There may be a swollen capacitor on one of the circuit boards that may be causing the problem. A cap swells and shorts out. If so it will need to be replaced. I've had single swollen caps keep an entire television from working.

Put in clean commercial disc and get error msg "no disc" period!

Dr. OM,

Lets give it a try. The purchasedate will be 1991 (HI).
I'll suppose you allready cleaned the laserunit.
You can try to clean the laserslides, sometimes they are sticky and dry. Then the laser is not fast and precise enough to read the index of your CD.
Clean them with some alcohol on cottontips.
When they are really clean, use just a little teflonoil to make sure the laserunit slides very smoothly.

Player skip reading the music then come back to start over

Pull the top off the unit and use a can of Dust Off (compressed air) and clean out the inside. Then use a Laser lens cleaner and run it thru the unit once or twice. This is considered normal maintenance on a 300 or 400 disc changer that should be done annually. If it still won't play a disc, replace the unit, the replacement model is around $ 199.00. A repair would easily cost that much. Hope this helps.

Sony cdp-cx355 cds skip only on tracks 1 through 5

I got a free one of these from my work...well that is because it was having the same problem and they didn't want to mess with it haha. Sooo...I brought it home..thinking i could just buy a cd cleaner kit and clean the dirty lens..which is what normally causes these problems. To my dismay this didn't work (later found that the lens is a good half inch away from the disc)..so i decided to open the bad boy up (hey I got it for free...no harm crackin it open :-) ) After hitting the lens with a can of air..I tried again...no go. And just so you all know...this player runs vertically..not horizontally. I want to know how does the player read? the lens in stationary. All other players i have seen the lens moves up and down. I'm thinking it might have something to do with that. I gave up on cleaning it and started doing some searches..this was the only forum that was somewhat helpful. I agree with Silverscreen. When i watch the cd's playing the disc wobbles SLIGHTLY up and down. I think the rear stand-alone wheel is a bit too loose. ..The amount it wobbles is hardly noticed but is the only thing i see out of the ordinary.
