We have one of these units at work and it keeps flashing the error up "scanner not found" mid scan...
This can occur immediatley afet pressing the scan button or a few pages into the current don.
It is connected to a USB2 port running on XP Pro SP2.
I ususlly turn the scanner off/on a few times and then it works for the current document batch.
This is adding needless time to our scanning process...
Heeeelp pls...
I have relocated the scanner over to my own pc within the IT dept and its working fine there.
Think I need to look closer at the previous machines settings, in particular those relating to its USB ports...Still no joy.....

Re:
Uninstall the scanner software and also the
program you use to access the scanner
Restart the computer and reload the software[s]
Or first try a system restore.
Now look at the USB devices in addition to the scanner attached to the computer. Where ever possible disconnect if not in use or another connection is possible[ PS2 for mouse keyboard for example]. This is beginning to sound like USB overload. Now look at the USB devices in addition to the scanner attached to the computer.

The F4:C2 error on your scanners indicates that there is a problem with the background changeover unit, specifically with the black and white (BW) servo motor. It sounds like you have already done some troubleshooting and found that the motor is operating correctly and the changeover flaps and lamps are also working fine. However, the problem seems to be with the scanner's control system not recognizing the correct position of the flaps and continuing to try to move them, causing the gears to slip and the error to occur.
Here are a few additional suggestions for troubleshooting the issue:
Check the sensor that detects the position of the changeover flaps and ensure that it is clean and properly connected.
Check the control board or main board of the scanner for any signs of damage or wear and check all the connectors.
Try to re-flash or update the firmware of the scanner.
If the problem persists, try replacing the control board or the main board of the scanner.
The F-4 error in Fujitsu fi-6240 scanner indicates Background change over unit malfunction alarm. It may be caused by the malfunction of background motor or optical unit or damaged optical cable.
You are recommended to contact the nearest Fujitsu scanner service center for rectification.
Are the scan settings correctly specified for the scanning application software used? Check if interface cable are correctly connected. When the error occurs on ADF front, clean the glass inside of Base Unit. When the error occurs on ADF back, clean the glass of the Upper Unit.Check if any dirt get on the white reference sheet?
Also, check the mirror of the OPT Unit dirty, clean the mirrors. Check the connector and check any cables are damaged,if so, then replace the damaged cables.
If the above doesn't help, then the issue may be due Optical unit or Control PCA problem. hence, you may have to seek the help of Fujitsu scanner technicians for rectification.

I had this problem happen also and found that it was related to Acronis True Image Home 2011. When this program was uninstalled, the problem went away. I had even rebuilt the Windows 7-64 bit OS and the problem existed until Acronis was again removed.
When you face such errors, please check if the Scanner panel displays-"E-0" and TWAIN displays- “The running system is abnormal. Please confirm the carrier lock has come off.”
The error is Carrier unit drive alarm. After power-on, carrier unit (FB) moves to home position, that is where the carrier unit locates when home position sensor is turned ON. If the home position sensor is not turned ON after the carrier unit has moved pre-defined steps, this error occurs.
Probable causes: Defective sensor, motor, or carrier belt.
Also, please check the following:
1. Is there is any abnormal noise from FB motor when this error occurs? 2. Does any foreign object get inside drive unit or carrier unit? 3. Is CR belt tension loose? Loose belt should be tightened.
Does the scanner displays any error message on the scanner panel? Is there any TWAIN error message?
If paper jam occurs, U1 error will be displayed on the scanner panel and TWAIN driver will display " Paper jam the ADF (Code DS32002)" error message.
This error is detected when one of the followings occurs:
1) A document does not reach the TOP sensor while the scanner has transported the document about 250 mm to pick. (The scanner performs retry operation.)
2) The trailing edge of a document does not reach the TOP sensor after the scanner transports the document by the length (L) below. (The document may have slipped on the rollers) Scan condition Transported length.
In order to assist you with your scanner issue, Please provide the issue details with error message.
If nothing is being displayed, then the issue could be due to failure in Pick Motor function or Pick Sensor malfunction.
HP multi units are notorious for scanner failures. It is just a weak component in their machines. I have seen this time and time again. The only solution is to change the scanner out or purchase a different machine. Just keep in mind the notoriety HP has which failed scanners. If you want to venture into the replacement of the scanner the following website might have the product you are looking for. Otherwise, search around the net for a scanner assembly unit for the OJ7310. But, be prepared scanner units are not cheap. Check here first...PrinterFixer.net
