Upgrade 238622-001, Compaq Evo T30 Thin Client 300Mhz 32MB Flash/64MB/Win CE NET/IE 5.5 w/o
I would like to upgrade a:
238622-001, Compaq Evo T30 Thin Client 300Mhz 32MB Flash/64MB/Win CE NET/IE 5.5 w/o
to support PXE. This means it needs to have Windows NT embedded to support PXE. How can I achieve this?
We have about 15 Evo T30 that we need to upgrade.
Any one out there with suggestions?
Thank you in advance.
Re: Upgrade 238622-001, Compaq Evo T30 Thin Client 300Mhz...
You need to replace the 2mbit bios chip used by the WinCE Evo with the 4mbit one used by the NTe and XPe Evo, then you need an add on flash module, since the onboard flash is too small. After that, just find the OS file and flash away. You can find the OS files and a utility to flash from the HP support site. You'll need a crossover ethernet cable, not a patch cable, to do the flash.

A 200e that locks up usually need a memory and a firmware upgrade. The original 200's only have 32mb of internal memory. The upgraded mini print board that is used in the 730 has 64mb of memory. This 64mb board was used in the 200 as a upgrade and this stopped the lock up problem. Also over the years Bernina has improved the firmware and this also cures the lock up problem. The latest and probably last firmware version for the 200e is version 5, also called the cutwork version. The easiest thing for you to do would be to take your 200 to a dealer and have them install a 64mb mini print board and also upgrade your machines firmware to the latest version 5. Also if you have loaded embroidery designs in your machine, remove them as they use up the machines memory. When you get too many designs loaded even if you have a 64 MB board in your machine you can still have lockup problems.
you can download this pdf guide from
this will show you the steps to do a USB firmware upgrade.
Make the flash disk in the device bootable using MBRTool (This is necessary if you installed GRUB on the disk. The MBR needs to be overwritten)
From the Win CE installation folder, from drive:\<path to wince installation>\PLATFORM\CEPC\SRC\BOOTLOADER\DOS\BOOTDISKcopy all files and paste it to the flash disk in the device (These files always comes with Win CE installation)
Put your build of Win CE - EBOOT.BIN in the flash disk on the device (This will be your custom Win CE image)
Remove the USB drive, and boot the device. Your new build of Win CE should boot up.
Failing that use WSI and an S30 image from the wyse Website.
WDM also has the option to to re-image the client.
You may also be able to get into the control panel of the terminal, and download an FTP image and set the terminal to upgrade from the image when uploaded to your ftp site. From the control panel, you can initate the upgrade manually
It probably has to do with the version of CE client that is installed on the Thin Client. I have run into this problem before. The same Wyse clients can have different versions of CE installed. If the versions are the same then contact WYSE tech support to find what the error code relate to. BPCS
