Microwave door has burn spots on the glass of the door...
There seems to be brown spots on the inside of the glass door. I cannot clean off these burn spots on the outside of the door, nor the inside of the door. It actually seems that the spots are inside the glass. I'm starting to think there is actually 2 sheets of glass and the spots are between the glass.... does this make any sense? weird. Perhaps there is a way to remove the glass? Please assist/advise. Thanks, Tony
Those spots are not burn marks nor are they stains. The door has glass on the outside, a piece of perferated metal painted black in the middle, and a clear decal similar to packaging tape on the inside. The problem is the paint flakes off the metal grid over time and rusts. What you are seeing is rust. Take off the top plastic vent above the door, then you can lift the door off it's hinges. Then pry the black plastic outer frame from the inside of the door, then pry the metal frame out, be sure to remove the door handle screws first. Those spots are not burn marks nor are they stains. next, clean the rust off of the glass, and take the metal part and spray it off in the sink. You will then need to set the metal part in front of a fan to dry for about 30 minutes as drying with a towel, etc. will not get all the water out of the grid.next, clean the rust off of the glass, and take the metal part and spray it off in the sink. if you want to fix it right, you can peel the clear tape off the metal grid, and re paint the grid, then order a new clear tape piece from partsselect.com or similar for around 20 bucks.if you want to fix it right, you can peel the clear tape off the metal grid, and re paint the grid, then order a new clear tape piece from partsselect.com or similar for around 20 bucks.
if you put it back together as is, it will look great for about another year until the rust forms again.if you put it back together as is, it will look great for about another year until the rust forms again.
just make sure you remove the door and do this procedure on a table. If you try to take it apart while on the hinges, you will likely cause the glass to drop out and break, and you don't want to do that because it costs 80 bucks to replace.just make sure you remove the door and do this procedure on a table. Re:
The brown spots are usually grease / smoke deposits.
Usually there are indeed two sheets of glass in the door.
If the grease is not arcing or smoking, and the metal screen / mesh (that blocks microwave leakage) is not damaged, then it's likely better left alone.
It might be useful to boil a few cups of water with a little vinegar inside the microwave to help dissolve the deposits.
In case you want to take it apart, I have attached a photo from a similar model that illustrates disassembly of the door.
It is not necessary or advisable to remove the door or hinges when disassembling the door.

On alot of models the door comes as a complete assembly and can't be taken apart. Magic Chef is made by Maytag and I am pretty sure theirs do not come apart. If it does come apart then it is likely held togther by plastic tabs that have to be pried apart. The problem is they break easy and then you will be replacing parts. Guess you will have to decide if it is worth taking that chance because doors are expensive. I don't see your model # in the description but you can try looking a diagram by typing in your complete model # located on the sticker inside the microwave. Try sears.com and click on parts and various other repair sites. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
The problem is that the magnetron is arcing when it is running and it has found a couple bare spots 'exposing the metal'. The microwave uses a special industrial white enamel paint to prevent arcing, it is very important that the oven be removed from service until the situation is rectified otherwise there is a danger of shorting out the magnetron.
To clean between you need to remove one of the pieces of glass...usually the inside is the best....
There are a few screws on the inside of the door theat hold the frame, which holds the inside glass...
remove the frame and carefully remove the inside glass... clean the inside of the outside glass, then clean the inside of the inside glass and then reinstall the froame over the inside glass...
Look and see if there are screws holding the inside of the door to the outside of the door.
If so, remove the screws and the door should come apart, and may be cleaned.
God bless your efforts.
There is a screen behind the outer glass of the door which protects you from harmful microwave emmisions. Residue will build up here over time. Trying to clean this screen may damage it and subject you to serious problems. I have been using Microwave ovens for 35 years with no problems. I dont worry about this because germs will be eliminated by the emmisions.
