Known problem to Garmin that is caused from loading new software and new maps. Fix: Turn the unit off. Then hold down the left affor key and scroll roller with left hand. With those two held down, then hold down the power button. If done correctly, the screen will come on saying the unit is going to reset. It tells you that destination information, etc. entered by you will be lost and makes you answer yes that losing that information is OK to get the unit to reset. Seems then that everything again works OK.
Same problem!!! I have now spent over 5 hours today just trying to update my i2 Streetpilot, and add another state. Two days before Christmas, I have other things to do, but we are also trying to leave town, into new territory, and would like to take the Garmin with us. SO FRUSTRATING!!! Garmin.com offers little if any support, so I was very happy to find this site!
After updating my Streetpilot, it totally went blank. This is after trying countless times to do it, and since I own a Mac, I have to go to someone else's house to even to this. And then to come away with not only an UN-updated unit, but a BLANK one, and right before a trip.
Anyway, your tip of holding Left button and Scroll Roller down simultaneously, then pushing the Power button RESTORED everything. THANK YOU! TOTALLY RAD!!! YOU ROCK!!!
