7200 won't hold full North America upgrades. Can memory be increased?

Upgrading maps gets a message not enough memory for full set. Must download smaller set. Can memory be increased? ALSO - Use marine charts in 7200. Can I add a larger memory card than 2 gig? Thanks Fred [email protected]

Try this: Maximize your GPS Memory Your Garmin StreetPilot 7200 has limited storage space for waypoints, routes, and tracks. Once you reach that limit, your GPS can't hold any more data. Smart ExpertGPS users have figured out how to eke out every last bit of memory space on their Garmin GPS receivers. Before each outdoor adventure or visit to a project site, they use ExpertGPS to back up the contents of their GPS, and then clear the GPS data memory. They can then download as much data as possible onto their GPS (leaving some room for GPS data collection out in the field). When they get back, they use ExpertGPS to upload all of their Garmin waypoints, routes, and tracks onto their computer and save it. Once they've backed up the new data from their GPS, they can clear the memory again, keeping their GPS ready for their next trip.

SOURCE: Putting maps on sd memory card

(Untried)
For C330 owners that want to have both Canada and US 2008 map update on their GPS this is what you have to do.

Must have:
1 - Street pilot C330

2 - 512mb SD card
3 - SD card reader of some form (some cameras will suffice)
4 - Garmin 2008 Map Update North America

What to DO:

1 - connect the GPS to the computer
2 - Insert the Map update disk
3 - Install the Lower 48 states, United States
(Reason - the C330 has around 1000mb of memory and the "US 48 states" map uses around 900mb" while Canada uses 400mb...which is why you will need that 512mb SD card later)

4 - Once the GPS is updated with the US map. Browse the Map update disk contents. This can be done with going to "My Computer" right click on your CD/DVD drive and click on "Explore"

5 - Open the folder called "img"

6 - Copy the file called "gmappromU.img" file is around 430mb. (This is the map file for Canada)

7 - Insert your SD card into your card reader and connect it to your computer. A window should pop up. If not you should see it on your "My Computer"

8 - Once you have navigated your way into the SD card directory. Create a folder on the SD card named "garmin" (no caps)

9 - Go into your newly created "garmin" folder right click and paste the "gmappromU.img" file. (This may take upto 20 to 30 mins)

10 - Once the process is complete, Rename the "gmappromU.img" file to --> "gmapsupp.img" (watch for spelling, no caps at all)

11 - Remove the SD card, Turn off your GPS, Insert SD card into GPS.

12 - Turn on GPS, let it load, and there you have it, the FULL North America Map.

When you are searching a state or province (depending where you are located) it will give you an option which map to use, Canada/Alaska or the lower 48 US states. Select your map and you are set to Go.

SOURCE: Not enough space for maps?

The garmin does not have any space on it for maps, any additional maps are stored on a memory
card. I don't see where garmin says the size limit of the card but in most cases unless it says
SDHC memory card, then the max is a 2g sd card, I think the models 500 and over can use over a 2g card.,

SOURCE: Nuvi 205w won't read upgraded map

You HAVE to go through software support as this is an issue with the map. They told me it is because the map KEY is wrong, it is only for the united states, but the map is ALL of north america. The wait time is incredibly long, I have been waiting for over an hour, such bad service

9700 Bold won't work with ATT M-Cell

Remember, upgrading you OS when not released by you carrier, AT&T in this case, may void any warranty. However, it is an offical release from RIM so I don't know what AT&T's reaction might be.
I installed the release from V***p***e and AT&T pushed all of the service books except for BB Maps. I found a BB Maps service book online, downloaded and installed it and BB Maps works fine. The only problem I have with the OS upgrade is that I have far less memory for adding applications and there is a well documented memory leak. I had to uninstall many apps I rarely use just to achieve about 32MB of memory. After about a days use, that memory will dwindle to around 12MB. I you do choose to install, use one of the OS shrinkers to take out any modules you won't need and then re-install your apps one at a time. It's seems fairly stable even running with little memory. The browser is nice but it too has it's problems. It will close all of your browser windows if you get low on memory. Just my observations. Your mileage may vary.

Garmin Street Pilot C330 new map installation

Hello  Dimin,
If you have more than one harddrive, make sure that you are installing the program in the harddrive with the 274 GB of free space, and not in the other harddrive that mightnot have that 3083 MBs of free space

I just bought a Europe map from garmin for my nuvi 1300 and when I try to download it I get the message "insufficient Space". I have a North America map on my Garmin that I am not using at the...

Yes you do have to remove the North America map, I was just checking on the specs and they do not list that it supports a memory card so unfortunately due to the lack of available space on the solid state drive that comes built into this unit you will have to do the map switchover.

My nuvi 3760T does not have enough space to load europe map. Can I remove preloaded north america map and reload at a later date without losing it?

If you have the map downloaded from the garmin website to your computer you could remove it and replace it later. However a better option might be to download the map of Europe to your computer and install it to a micro SD card. A 4 Gb card would hold the map of Europe and you don't risk losing your North America map. You can get details of how to set up the map on your micro SD card at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps
While this link is mainly about how to update your maps it has a section on setting up maps on an SD/Micro SD card also.

TomTom Go 720 map activation

No Maps Found usually means the Application on your internal memory is not the latest one, or the map did not download correctly.
Make sure when you select internal memory when updating your device on home, that you update the application as well.
V8351 should be the latest application for your device.

Have a Garmin nuvi 200 with North America maps. Am downloading a map of Ireland. Will this erase my existing maps of N. America?

It will depend on how much memory you have in your Garmin. If you have maps that you want to keep then I would download those first and then add in the Ireland maps. Or wait until you leave to add in Ireland. I believe the Garmin will tell you if there isn't enough room to add in Ireland.

2009 map update not loading

Fixed. Called Garmin. It seems that version 4.90 FW on the Nuvi 350 (which came shipped on my 350) has a bug where it cannot communicate with the Garmin software either to update maps or update FW. Tech from Garmin e-mailed me a patch that I copied into the Garmin folder on the Nuvi itself, via USB and Windows Explorer. I then rebooted it; the patch installed itself which then allowed the unit to communicate with the map upgrade software and all is well. 2009 map update is now installed and the Nuvi is working fine again. Haven't tried upgrading to newer FW yet; will probably leave well enough alone.

Free map updates

Unfortunately, they don't offer free map updates. You can purchase map updates for around $70, but they won't update them for free.

Also, the base model of the C330 does not have enough memory to store the entire 2008 Map Update. Unless you have more memory than it came with stock, you may have to choose which maps to include. For instance, in North America you have to choose between US and Canada - there's insufficient memory to hold both.
