Upgrading maps gets a message not enough memory for full set. Must download smaller set. Can memory be increased? ALSO - Use marine charts in 7200. Can I add a larger memory card than 2 gig? Thanks Fred [email protected]
Try this: Maximize your GPS Memory Your Garmin StreetPilot 7200 has limited storage space for waypoints, routes, and tracks. Once you reach that limit, your GPS can't hold any more data. Smart ExpertGPS users have figured out how to eke out every last bit of memory space on their Garmin GPS receivers. Before each outdoor adventure or visit to a project site, they use ExpertGPS to back up the contents of their GPS, and then clear the GPS data memory. They can then download as much data as possible onto their GPS (leaving some room for GPS data collection out in the field). When they get back, they use ExpertGPS to upload all of their Garmin waypoints, routes, and tracks onto their computer and save it. Once they've backed up the new data from their GPS, they can clear the memory again, keeping their GPS ready for their next trip.

For C330 owners that want to have both Canada and US 2008 map update on their GPS this is what you have to do.
Must have:
1 - Street pilot C330
2 - 512mb SD card
3 - SD card reader of some form (some cameras will suffice)
4 - Garmin 2008 Map Update North America
What to DO:
1 - connect the GPS to the computer
2 - Insert the Map update disk
3 - Install the Lower 48 states, United States
(Reason - the C330 has around 1000mb of memory and the "US 48 states" map uses around 900mb" while Canada uses 400mb...which is why you will need that 512mb SD card later)
4 - Once the GPS is updated with the US map. Browse the Map update disk contents. This can be done with going to "My Computer" right click on your CD/DVD drive and click on "Explore"
5 - Open the folder called "img"
6 - Copy the file called "gmappromU.img" file is around 430mb. (This is the map file for Canada)
7 - Insert your SD card into your card reader and connect it to your computer. A window should pop up. If not you should see it on your "My Computer"
8 - Once you have navigated your way into the SD card directory. Create a folder on the SD card named "garmin" (no caps)
9 - Go into your newly created "garmin" folder right click and paste the "gmappromU.img" file. (This may take upto 20 to 30 mins)
10 - Once the process is complete, Rename the "gmappromU.img" file to --> "gmapsupp.img" (watch for spelling, no caps at all)
11 - Remove the SD card, Turn off your GPS, Insert SD card into GPS.
12 - Turn on GPS, let it load, and there you have it, the FULL North America Map.
When you are searching a state or province (depending where you are located) it will give you an option which map to use, Canada/Alaska or the lower 48 US states. Select your map and you are set to Go.

sounds like you might not have the new map set selected
settings -> map -> map info (make sure the NT 2009 map is checked)
SOURCE: Not enough space for maps?
The garmin does not have any space on it for maps, any additional maps are stored on a memory
card. I don't see where garmin says the size limit of the card but in most cases unless it says
SDHC memory card, then the max is a 2g sd card, I think the models 500 and over can use over a 2g card.,
SOURCE: Nuvi 205w won't read upgraded map
You HAVE to go through software support as this is an issue with the map. They told me it is because the map KEY is wrong, it is only for the united states, but the map is ALL of north america. The wait time is incredibly long, I have been waiting for over an hour, such bad service
SOURCE: I have a Garmin Nuvi 200 and recently purchased
Solution: Throw the damn thing away! Obviously everyone has the same issues. They need to recall them. They are ****!

Many thanks for the suggestions. Looks like I'll be OK as long as I'm not driving off the mainland. Appreciate the help. Happy New Year to all. Fred
