Question about Hitachi DZ-MV550 DVD Camcorder
If you don't mind paying out some money, data recovery experts can possibly retrieve the data. You may want to try doing it yourself though because at least you know you won't damage the actual disk. Who knows what will happen to it after it has left your possesion.

Thank you for your reply. I did exactly that - tried doing the restore option that the recorder gives which unfortunately did not work. Then I brought it to a data recovery place on Burrard in Vancouver ... very helpful and professional. They were only able to recover a very small amount of video - not worth recording unfortunately (no charge). If I had read the instructions thoroughly before using the recorder - like I did after this problem occurred, I would have had a better chance at saving more data. So, lesson learnt - life happens.
I have the same problem. When trying to record precious moments of my two young boys, I keep getting the DISC ERROR message, Just like the other complaint, this is very FRUSTRATING and HEARTBREAKING when you purchase an expensive camcorder to record special moments you can't get back!!! Like my son's 2nd birthday party and my college graduation party, all I have now are pictures.
Before I throw in the towel (and throw away $700) is there anything I can do to save my camcorder?? PLEASE HELP
