I have a problem with the yamaha ap-u70 on winxp.
i want to record the aux1 connected tape deck on my pc.
in the ap-u70 device description it reads that i should select the usb audio device for ap-u70.
but there is no usb audio device to select.
is this a driver problem?
how can i solve this problem???
thanks for any hint.

It may be that your device is operating in 6 channels mode. You can correct that by pressing the USB button on the AP-U70 until the display says USB_Xch. Then select the right mode (USB_2ch) with the < and > buttons and press the USB button again until is says Xch->2ch. Sometimes you have to disconnect the device from your computer, or you may not be able to select an other mode.
I use the AP-U70 with Vista and even then it works, although the program for making adjustments does not. By telling you this I want to say that the AP-U70 is rather compatible and not one of that always having trouble devices.

Be sure you have SONY usb cable and be surely sure if you have plugged in your nav-u ac charger. All two things in rihght side connected to nav-u. hope it helps
If nothing else, get the manuals for the preamp and the EQ. You'll probably have to pay for them.
Google it.
Akai PR-A04 preamplifier << This is the control center and where everything comes together.
Akai AP-D210 turntable (ONLY to jacks that say "PHONO"
Akai EA-G40 Stereo Graphic Equalizer (in the Tape 1 Out/In set)
Akai CS-F14 Stereo cassette deck (in the Tape Out/In set of the EQUALIZER) *
Akai AT-K110 Fm Am Tuner (to the Tuner inputs)
Akai DT-100 Audio Tuner (to the Aux inputs)
Akai PA-W04 Amplfier (to the amp outputs)
* This will allow you to Equalize the Tape on the Record or the Playback side.
Read some audio magazines or websites. Get to understand Tape Monitor Loops.
- Unplug Ap-U70 from power - Remove side and top plates - Remove front panel (3 connectors onboard) - Lift up front pcb from the main plasic front
Then you see the poti with 4 clamps - bend the 4 clamps carefully aside and open the poti - you will see there's alot of oil/fat inside the poti that shouldn't be there - remove it all with some cleaning fluids
Assemble all together and see: Volume control is back
Within the years the oil/fat goes where it shouldn't ...
Sorry, here is the bad new,
Sony Canada told me that my NAV-U70 does NOT have sufficient memory to drive the next Navteq update (which will be offered by Sony) and guess what, that update is not even available yet, may be in a couple months or weeks, Sony don't even know when!!!
After spending over 500 CDN$ (tax incl) for my NAV-U70 2 years ago at Best Buy store, Sony Canada do not care at all either Best Buy, they offered me 100$ which I can use on other Sony products, well... will I buy something else from Sony... not sure! :-(

If you are seeing access points, you need to make sure that you are connecting to them. You will get a message that you are connected. If the AP is secured, there will usually be a symbol that looks like a lock and that means that you have to know the name of the AP and also the secuirty key. You have to know that they are open access points, but be careful connecting to one that isn't a public AP. If it is just one in your area , you are technically "stealing" the connection and there have been some cases where people have been charged with theft for using an AP they weren't authorized to use.
I have had a problem like yours and yes there is software that will get you back in but you should try Windows XP Startup disk or Windows XP CD to use Recovery Console. When either of these two is inserted, restart your computer. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console. Once the Recovery Console is open, type your Administrator password (blank by default) and input fixmbr to get MBR fixed.
Note that the fixmbr command may damage your partition table (part of MBR) if a hardware problem exists. You may also create inaccessible partitions by this command. You are highly recommended to backup your data before you use this fixmbr command.Ok if you dont have the disks here is a list of software that you can use. www.Spotmau BootSuite .com I have used this program and its very good I will also give you a few free ones that you might like to try http://www.lazesoft.com/lazesoft-recovery-suite-free.html ............. http://ccm.net/download/download-1221-ultimate-boot-cd ...........
