Canon Pixma MP 500 Error 5100

You can Try
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

Faulty photos

Here is the link to the support page for the mp500; http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=11995 sorry i cant give you a direct link to the instructions, but if you type "print head cleaning" into the "please enter your question" box (on the support and service tab), then it will take you through the whole procedure, including what to do if the different cleaning procedures do not work. This should resolve your problem, please ask again if you are having trouble still. you can also get the user manual if you prefer to read the instructions in there, available under the "drivers and downloads" tab. Hope this helps :)

Photo quality

With nearly ALL Canon printers, you must use Canon paper for photos. The MP500 isn't really a photo printer like the 600, so that is also a problem. Try using the Canon photo paper. It's a bit pricey, but might be worth it in the long run.
Hope this helps.

This is how I finally resolved the issue. Deep cleaning on PGBK head several times and bottom plate cleaning several times. This is done thru maintenance tab.

Canon MP500 printer

We have the same problem. I removed the cartridges, then removed the print head. There was lots of ink gunk on the print head. I cleaned it and the problem disappeared completely for a few days but is now back. I suspect the print head needs to be replaced. Still working on it.

Solution: Clean The Print Head Nozzles (Windows) MP500 / MP800
lean The Print Head Nozzles (Windows) The following contains instructions to check the nozzles for poor print quality and perform cleanings of the print head nozzles as necessary. If print results are faint or streaks are printed, the print head nozzles may be clogged. Those phenomena can be improved by performing print head cleanings or print head deep cleanings. nozzlecheckflow_en.jpg

Photo Printing

Hi, Most Inkjets have maintenance software installed in the computer itself where the printer is attached. If you would like to try, please click on Start/Printers and Faxes/ A new window will pop up where your Canon Pixma MP500 will be shown. Right click on the Canon icon and left click on the Properties. A new window will pop up. See if there is any Utilities or Maintenance Tab. If none, try clicking on Printing Preferences. Another window will pop up. Normally this is where your Maintenance Option is displayed. Clicking on the Maintenance (sometimes they use Utilities) Tab, a list of maintenance options will be displayed. Pls follow the on screen instructions. They icons represent the action you would want done like head cleaning, alignment, roller cleaning etc. Clicking on the icon initiate the action. Should you still need a copy of the User's Manual, it may be downloaded from www.usa.canon.com Hope this be of some help to you. Pls post again how things turn up. Good luck and kind regards.
