My Rheem Hot water heater is not producing much hot water just recently. It is a 40 gal @36,000 BTUM
I believe that there are 2 separate electric heating coils in this unit (unless you are talking about the GAS unit). One of the coils either has a wire broken or the element needs to be replaced!
Yes, it is a "Gas" hot water heater. Do they have 2 heater elements or coils like elect. heaters?
Nope! No such thing! There is a burner plate at the bottom of the unit that has holes in it that have jets of burning gas going up to heat the tank. TURN OFF THE GAS and then open the front panel to see the burner unit. You will need some brushes, preferably brass wire types that you can get in a hardware store. Carefully brush the carbon off of the burners. Then go for the igniter, but first TURN OFF THE BREAKER FOR THE IGNITER (if it is electronically self starting) and clean off the contacts with vinegar. If there is a pilot light instead, clean it off carefully with vinegar. Next, wait a few minutes for the igniter or pilot light area to dry then turn on the electric breaker for the igniter and then the gas or just turn on the gas for the electronic igniter and wait for it!!
