Question about Dynex DX-FC103 (DXFC103) Serial Adapter
Possible that Windows has tried once and tagged the hardware as "present but problematic". Look in the following: 1.) right click "My Computer" icon and select PROPERTIES. 2.) select HARDWARE then DEVICE MANAGER then try to find your device. It may be easy to find if my assumption was correct because Windows will place a special thumbnail next to any problematic devices. If you cannot find it, then your device may indeed be dead, so try a friend's computer installation to narrow the field.

This is quite an old firewire card model ans according to the model number you have posted the chip on this card supports only upto windows 2000 or before, so if you are trying to run it on XP, there are no inbuilt driver support, so i think maybe you need to purchase a newer firewire card. There are are no downloadable drivers for this card because cards of this type do not require drivers to be installed as they are built into windows, but in this case not XP.

SOURCE: Firewire Not Detected
I eventually got this card to work on a XP SP2 machine. I think after a few Windows updates it got recognized.
