Clicking noise coming from whirlpool refrigerator

Just last light we noticed a clicking noise coming from the fridge. It seems to be at on and off intervals which are intermittent. We pulled the fridge out today and the noise seems to be coming from the compressor area. The compressor is also hot. The fan is working just fine. The fridge is also cooling properly.

The clicking sound is a relay called PTC relay. You need to replace it. First be sure to unplug frig. Remove the cardboard cover that covers most backs of the frig units. Remove the plastic cover that is on the side of compressor. It is held on with a metal clip. Now you should be able to see the relay pry the relay straight off. note the wiring and position of relay. Only three prongs on compressor. Go to a parts house for appliance's and with your make and model number should be able to get a new one. Let me know if you need any more help. ken

Your compressor is going bad,,,it should not be hot to the touch and if its clicking on and off then you need to get a repairman out as soon as you can before it goes all the way out

Side by side fridge freezer making clicking noise lasts about 30 seconds every few minutes seems to be working well enough

if you notice that the machine is getting warm, send the model number located in the fridge section on the right hand wall up near the ceiling.if you hear that clicking every three to five minutes you could have a bad start device located on the compressor, not trying to make you panic but this is one thing it could be,just hate to see you loose your food.

WHIRLPOOL REFRIGERATOR DISPLAY FLASHING AND NOT COLD

Before replacing the board, you should try replacing the starter relay on the compressor, presuming the clicking is coming from this area? The flashing could indicate that the fridge is out of setpoint temperature range and is an alarm to this fact. If the clicking is coming from the board area, it is a relay trying to come on. Hope this helps.

Freezer not working , clicking noise coming from fridge

Clicking was a relay. Replaced relatively inexpensive relay and now working fine.

Own the same model, the icemaker and the dispenser work properly but the leak is top center of the refrigerator compartment.

Clicking Fridge

I used to have a whirlpool fridge, they are the ones who make kenmore too. It used to make a loud thud noise. It was the compressor turning off. sometimes it was loud enough to wake me up at night. It did this for years and I never had any problems with it. when I purchased a larger fridge I sold it to a friend and its still working today. If you can tolerate the noise I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts giving you trouble.
