Please help this techno-phobe fix her digital camera!!
5'2", blonde hair...only joking ha ha! I have an Olympus X-715, bought it a year ago and it has been absolutely fine until i decided to give it to my mum this morning. All of a sudden, the lens comes out, freezes with a black screen then retracts again and the red and green lights on the back flash continuosly. Have changed the batteries...any ideas??

That sounds like a problem that will need checking out by a technician. First, check the purchase date and warranty info-maybe it's still under warranty. Otherwise, look at Olympus' website under product support to see how they would handle servicing the camera. If it was, say, over US$150, it may be worth fixing.

for my 5 month old Olympus D745, I tried all solutions so no avail UNTIL Scary # 6. Just a couple of taps into the palm of my hand and the camera lens opened and now works beautifully! Thanks so much! I couldn't take my camera back to the shop where I bought it as it's in London and I'm in Oklahoma!
Have you tried checking the battery? As you mentioned before, the camera was bought 3 years ago. And doesn't specify if you left the batteries inside the camera. Please try replacing the battery, otherwise send the camera to the nearest Olympus for technical check up.
Someone else posted the fix for this and it worked for me!
Hold the camera with the lens facing straight up toward the sky. Turn on camera. I had to do it 4 or 5 times before my camera started working correctly. Amazingly simple solution that I'm so glad someone shared with us!
