I have a new Clarion VCZ625 6-Disc CD/Video CD/DVD Changer
connected to a Clarion M475 head unit. When I load a CD/DVD
the dvd will play the entro but none of the buttons related to operation of the dvd will work. Is this a bad unit or remote?

Re:
I would say to take it back regardless of what the problem is. I would say the unit is bad. Does the remote work the other functions? if it does not then the remote could be bad, if the remote does work the other functions, I would think the unit is bad.

Most cd changes only work with like brands. Sony with Sony .jvc with jvc. Find a manual for a brand new model on google or the the manufacturer and see if it has a problems section
the problem with these units are they will read untill ejected were as a dvd player will try to read then when it cant it will stop i think it would be dirty lazer and boy are thay hard to get to to profess clean put a disc cleaner through it 10 times and see what happens
Well, I have just had the same problem with the same model.
I had a look inside and it turned out in my case that the din socket that connects the multichanger to the head unit had one pin that had failed, (the power 12V).
I had to go through every pin, one by one and found that the 12V was present on the lead coming from the head unit, but was not making its way to the board. It had failed within the socket surprisingly.
So I wired in a new, fused 12V feed to the circuit board, and hey presto, everything came back to life!
I thought I would just add this in case anyone ever searches for this problem in the future.

Typically means the CD is stuck, has a reading error, or the magazine is stuck. If jammed, you'll have to clear the stuck CD which may require disassembly. Try removing power and rebooting.
If all else fails, I recommend contacting a local car audio professional, or you may contact Clarion customer support directly by clicking here:
CDAC ER2 usually means a cd is stuck, not reading properly, or that the magazine is stuck or broken. take out all cds and try it with a known good cd (one that played ok in the past). if that doesn't work, try unplugging the unit and plugging it back in.
if it still doesnt work, take the magazine out, power it up so that you get the "no mag" error, then insert the magazine with no discs and see if it still errors out with ER2. if it does, then the magazine is bad, or the changer is bad..
if it works, then try the known good disc again, if it works now, your magazine was probably stuck, or one of the other cd's isn't liked by the changer.
Bloody snap! I also have a 406. The button on the head unit is supossed to turn on player. My original unit wore out.I got a second hand unit which is also not recognized by the head unit. At the moment I dont know why,but Im not a man to give up easily and will give you the solution when I have it. I know it was working originally and it looks like the secondhand unit is faulty. I have the same HU and the same processor as you. First I only used the chinch cables to the processor, and from the changer.
The improvements you make; your headunit DAC and your chancher DAC wil not be used anymore. The differens; normal with a cd you convert a digitalsignal into analoge, in the HU or changer, and then you make it digital again in the processor, en put the signal analoge into your amp.
The advantage is; the processor uses the famous Burr Brown DACs and that is know by its good sound processing.
