I just switched To higher Ram did the same thing on a few starts but it did so letting me know it detected a change. After a few restarts it's been fine since. But Yes should try reseating the RAM. If not correctly seated it could cause such issues as well. Or also check to make sure your unit can handle the amount you are wanting to use. If too high it may not be registering properly.

Beeps twice then pauses and beeps twice again(repeats) and wont boot

When your computer emits beeps when you power on the computer, it's usually means that you have a memory issue. Try re-seating the memory modules and power on the computer. If you have more the one module, insert one at a time and power on the computer.

Inspiron 531s upon starting beeps twice and pauses and beeps again. never comes up on monitor it is black

Assuming that you hear 2 short beeps and a pause before you hear 2 more beeps, your computer can not detect any memory during the power on self test. Turn off everything and unplug all of the cables. Then open the computer and carefully remove all of the memory in the machine. (Press down on the plastic latches that hold the modules in place then pull the memory stick away from the motherboard.) Replace one module and then try to reboot the computer. If this works, try the other stick(s). Try the modules in different slots until you know if any of the modules and slots work.

Replace with new memory if possible. The 531 can take 512 MB or 1 GB memory with the following specs: 667-MHz or 800-MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

If the none of the memory works in any slots, try them in another computer if possible. If the memory works in another system, then the motherboard needs to be replaced.

I hope this helps.

Inspiron 531s beeps twice pause then again, upgraded memory

That is a memory parity error. You either put memory in that is not compatible with the computer or you added a stick of memory that is not compatible with that which is already in the computer.

Inspiron 531s will not boot up, keeps beeping, saying it is in power save mode. How do I fix the problem

System Beep Codes The Inspironâ„¢ 531 / 531s system can emit a series of beeps during start-up if the display cannot show errors or problems. These series of beeps, called beep codes, identify various problems. One possible beep code consists of repetitive three short beeps. This beep code indicates the computer encountered a possible system board failure.
The series of beeps has a 3-second delay before it repeats. The series and delays continually loop until you press the power button.
Code Description Suggested Remedy 1 BIOS ROM checksum in progress or failure System board failure; covers BIOS corruption or ROM error 2 No memory modules detected
  1. If you have two or more memory modules installed, remove the modules, reinstall one module, and then restart the computer. If the computer starts normally, reinstall an additional module. Continue until you have identified a faulty module or reinstalled all modules without error.
  2. If available, install a good memory module of the same type into the computer.
  3. If the problem persists, contact Dell.
3 Chipset error (North and Southbridge chipset, DMA/IMR/Timer Error for Intel® platform); chipset error System board failure. Power LED is blinking amber. Time-Of-Day Clock test failure Gate A20 failure Super I/O chip failure Keyboard controller test failure 4 RAM read/write failure
  1. Ensure no special memory module/memory connector placement requirements exist.
  2. Verify the memory modules you are installing are compatible with the computer.
  3. If the problem persists, contact Dell.
5 Real time clock failure. Possible battery failure or system board failure.
  1. Replace the battery.
  2. If the problem persists, contact Dell.
6 Video BIOS test failure Video card failure 7 CPU cache test failure Processor failure

My Dell Inspirion 531S desktop won't start back up after power went out at home. Push power button and tries to start up then power button stays amber and tower beeps twice, pause, then repeats. Tried...

if u have another pc at home ,u could try the memory from the dell in it if its compatible.(by dell) reseat the memory, any add in cards, and any video cards, and check all power supply cables to the mb.per the dell site(the 2 beeps are for the memory moduals) though it said to take out the memory and put 1 of them in and boot,if it works fine, then check the other 1.
