I keep typing 192.168.1.254 in my address bar and I get the "cannot find server" error message. I am connected to the internet, or I wouldn't be able to type this message and send it. Is there another address I can try? I have the same model--2wire 1701HG Gateway.

Wall Plate -> Router (using phone cord).

Router -> PC (using network cable).

  1. Power on router, when the lights settle, start the PC.
  2. Start IE in PC, type 192.168.1.254 in the address bar and press enter.
  3. Start configuring using the Telco's suplied info, namely PPPoE username and password. All other function works by default.

I have an at&t 2wire 2701hg-b but i dont have at&t internet i have charter and i am not able to figure out how to get my internet to work with this router please help

att 2 wire is a Adsl Modem (Requires a telephone line jack to get the signals) but charter communication is a cable internet service (not DSL) , Requires a TV cable service for internet .
These two jacks differs and there working differs ..
Means : Att works with the username and password type of authentication but charter requires the MAC address of modem for authentication .
Therefore for a cable internet 2wire 2701hg-b modem cant be used . But yes in case charters has username and password authentication and works with the telephone jack in house then its possible to use the same modem.

How to configure Westell VersaLink 327W to work with ATT internet

I bought one of these wireless routers a while back and found that these can work well with At&t simply by logging into the router (192.168.1.1), creating an account with your At&t user ID and password, and enabling PPPoE with the VCI set to 8 and the VPI set to 35. Worked well for me for about two years now. Hope this helps

Att dsl internet on deskop and want wireless for my laptop

Yes you can buy a different DSL modem and that should not be a problem , then once you have the new DSL you just contact ATT and they will set up the settings on it...

I have a gateway M675 portable desktop w/wireless to a gateway router WGR200. Recently could not access internet (dsl) so purchsed new modem from ATT. Now I have internet access when modem is plugged into...

Yes. You need to configure the router. Most of the new routers come with a cd that will guide you. You can also call ATT and they will guide you as well.

Hope that helps you.

Wireless Home network will not stay connected to internet

So you have a DSL modem connected to a router connected to a wireless router connected to both your computers? Sounds like you need to just get a wireless modem and throw all the routers away.

Recently I subscribed ATT DSL Service conflict IP Address

the motorola modem that att is using uses 192.168.1.x subnet. log onto your router and change it to 192.168.b.x where b is any number between 2 and 254 (just not 1). You should also log onto the modem and change the setting that allows it to share the external ip address with the router. You will need to do this if you plan on accessing your network from the internet.

A friend gave me old 2Wire 1701HG wireless modem/router. It didn't come with power cord, cables etc. I found a 4.5V cord from old walkman that worked. Anyway, have ATT DSL service with speedstream 4100...

That would seem to be AT&T's favorite house brand...
Me thinks the SpeedStream was their SLOWEST
"DSL"

"2wire" was their next iteration of SLOW "DSL"

Yes... You will need to contact THEM ... or whom-so-ever is your INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER (ISP)...

As I recall... the PRICE DIFFERENCE from one
service to the other was about $10 per month.

Give them your pirated modem number and they
will need to register it as a digital subscriber
in order for you to gain internet access.

I have a two wire router trying to hook up to run my laptop

You need to run from the DSL modem into the ethernet port at the very top of the 1701hg. Use your other 4 ports below to send one the computer and one to your vonage. You will no longer need to "jump" though your vontage unit. Other than connecting the power cables, you are all hooked up.

Cannot connect new laptop to internet

Do you have a router set up? If not two things you can do:

1) Buy and setup wireless router wired with desktop and wireless with laptop.

OR

2) Remove network cable from back of Desktop and plug into laptop each time you want to use Internet. Cheaper option but more hassle to switch back and forth.
