Replace the Thermal Paste on the Processor.
Make SURE you THOROUGHLY clean the Top of the Processor, and bottom of the finned Heatsink; BEFORE Properly applying fresh, new Thermal Paste.
Use a plastic scraper to clean off the Processor, and Heatsink.
I use an old credit card. (Good use for bad rubbish)
Scrape off as much as you can. Use a can of compressed air for computers, and blo-w off the scraped old thermal paste.
Then use Q-tips dipped In Isopropyl Alcohol. (Rubbing alcohol)
91 percent is best, but 70 percent will do.
50 percent = No IMHO. 50 percent water, and 50 percent Alcohol.
Takes a LOT of alcohol dipped Q-tips, as it usually turns into a gooey mess.
How clean? Clean enough you could literally eat off of it.
CAUTION!!
Isopropyl alcohol is EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE!
Use in a WELL ventilated area with NO sparks or flames present!
Dripping alcohol off of the Q-tip? Don't sweat it. The alcohol will evaporate.

The BEST method is to actually remove the motherboard.
Why?
Because you can then hold the motherboard at eye level, and look across.
Look to SEE that the finned Heatsink is sitting FLAT on the Processor.
CANNOT be ANY daylight seen between the Processor, and Heatsink.
FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions. If you do not know what Anti-Static Precautions are -> STOP!

You DO NOT want to STATIC SHOCK the Processor, or the other hardware components.
[A Processor is the MOST susceptible hardware component; to Static Shock ]

(What you heard is a BIOS Beep Code. The computer's way of telling you something is wrong; and an area to look into for it.
The one long beep means a problem with the Processor.
Thermal Paste dries up over time, and the constant heat of the Processor.
The Thermal Paste looses it's thermal conductivity properties.

Another thing; Do you have a replacement CMOS battery? It should be a CR2032. (Positive [ + ] side ALWAYS goes UP ) Plus; FOLLOWING Anti-Static Precautions, (And computer unplugged from power) remove all ram memory modules ('Stick'), and clean the gold plated contact pins with a pencil eraser. Use air to remove the eraser dust, and reinstall. (Can of compressed air for computers, or air pressure from your mouth will be sufficient)
