Change text alert/ringtone on SGH-U700

Hi I'm afraid that on earlier Samsung models it was not possible to change the alert tone for sms messaging. You usually only got 10 preset alerts. Ringtones was ok to change only if in right format recognised by handset.

Go menu, settings, sound profile, tap normal (over the text not the radio button), At the top across from normal there is a drop down that says "call" tap it and select "message" from the drop down menu. The place to change it from there is Message Alert Tone field.

To change your ringtone, please follow these exact steps:

1. In Idle mode, press <Menu> >> Settings >> Phone settings >> Phone Profiles.

2. Scroll to the profile you are using.

3. Press <Options> >> Edit >> and go to the Envelope or Message tab. Highlight to choose message alert tone.

4. Press to Options >> Change

5. Select desired options and save configuration.

1. open phone, and push the side key under the memory card slot. 2. scroll over to the 'PROFILE' setting 3. highlight the 'NORMAL' setting, and push the 'OPTIONS' key. 4. go to 'EDIT'. push 'CALL ALERT' and you get a wealth of options. you can also edit the MESSAGE and PHONE SOUNDS options.

Most samsung models dont let you use ringtones as txt alert. Soz.

i have 2 u700.. my first phone u can use mp3.. dont know why.. my send phone doesn't have the option.. it can't see the mp3.. weird

I found the answer!! Go to Menu>Settings>Profiles, then go to Options>Edit. Push the right side of the square (that you use to navigate the menus) so that you're working with New Messages, not Incoming Call. Go down to Message Alert Tone, then go to Options>Change>Use Effect Tone. If you were trying to use an .mmf that you downloaded, or any of the preloaded ones that can be used as incoming call ringtones, you'd go to Use My Alert Tone here. There are 4 tones under Use Effect Tone, and you can play them and choose one, just like you do to play and choose your ringtone.

4. Select a ringtone category → a ringtone.
