When I put memory stick from my sony DSC W5 into my computer all the photos show. when in the camera half of them are missing and file error shows on camera screen any ideas?

Common error, can be caused by altering images or editing in the computer, then saving the images back to the memory stick, the camera cannot read the edited images or sort out changes that may have been made to the file allocation table on the stick. Download all the images to the computer, back the images up to a disc, flash drive or another hard drive. Then re-format the memory stick in the camera before using it again. The image "workflow" fr digital photography intends for the camera to PC path to be a one way street.

Turn the power on and off again

I fixed this issue with my Sony Cybershot by gently (carefully) hitting the camera 3 times against a carpeted bench with the lens retracted and the camera turned off. It seems the lens gears were stuck. Now the camera works fine again.

My sony cybershot dsc-p200 lense is stuck.

Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 worked great then the lens stuck in the open position.
Read on this site some one suggested gently manipulating the lens and tapping it then turning it on. It worked!!

Sony Cybershot DSC-W90

I had the same problem, I gently pried open the black windows of the shutter with my index finger nail, and applied very gentle pressure (pulling outward) while I pressed the power button. THEN... the whole zoom assembly moved EVER SO SLIGHTLY. So, I repeated the exact same process, with a little bit of pressure... and voila... the lens assembly opened fully and I was able to take pictures.

Cannot close the shutters

I had the same exact problem with my W5. After doing some research I found that hitting the bottom of the camera against my palm worked perfectly. This has worked for many others with the same problem. Start by hitting it lightly and increase the force until it retracts when you turn it on. I hope this helps.
