You have probably blown the fuse which means sending to a service centre for repairs.

Sharp VL-Z7U cassette door will not shut - with or without tape.

Always use the camcorder with the battery and power button on.

Does the cassette compartment close without the tape ? If yes. then we have hope.

Now insert the tape and press to close the compartment as usual. Does it close or reject every time ?
If it rejects, then very slightly nudge the three tiny figures of the mechanism where the two wheels of the tape fit.
Now the tape will sit inside the compartment and lower itself.

If it still ejects, then very slightly press the base metal (where the tape rests once loaded but) without the tape. This is the largest metal piece visible closest to the hinge and door.

The tape will load properly now.

You could face error DEW or 007. Both are known errors.
DEW is really due to moisture in the air. Try on hot dry place.
for 007 error, you would need to carefully clear with one index figure the reading head. Remember all parts of the camcorder are delicate and need carefull handling.

Never use any tools, fluids, fabric or tissue.

Let me know if this solves.

I am looking for USB driver for Windows 7 and the method to extract from tape as I do not have Firewire (Ieee 1394) any more in my laptop and desktop.

I have the same problem. If I remove the battery for a few seconds, then replace the battery and wait about 5 seconds, the tape compartment closes.

Tape door wont close

I'm having a similar problem. The camera is a Sony DCR-TRV280. When you put a tape in the tray will not go down. However when the tray is empty and you push it shut it will go down. In other words the mechanism works fine without the tape but with the tape it doesn't. I hope the explanation is clear enough. Thanks

Port wont close

You write so little it's hard to tell what your problem is... Won't the tape door close? could you have the hinges reversed or something? Can you push them back the right way and then try and close it? Try loading a fully charged battery into it, or plug it into the wall AC. If you have more info please post again.
