Fuse in Microwave blew , now starts running when door is opened
Yesterday the GE Profile microwave about 5 yrs old was DOA I opened her up and found the MDA20 Fuse was blown, I replaced it and all seemed well til today and now the microwave starts "running", with fan lights and all when the door is opened.
It appears to work through panel operation as well. Is this a bad Door switch condition or are these 2 conditions related ?
I think that you are correct in your diagnosis.. I took out the Door Switch assembly, ohmed out the switches..all good. but noticed the bottom switch connector was discolored by heat and the plastic showed signs of melt. I replaced that switch and cleaned and lubed the actuator rolloer moving part of the assembly.. behold it worked...but today it has started getting flaky again.. guess Ill replace all 3 switches and try it again! You have one or more defective door switches, or the door switch mount is loose or damaged.
If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

When you set heat time and hit start button the light and fan come on for a second and then everything shuts off and 4 8's are displayed. You can set the clock but when everything shuts off you have to reset the clock.

A short likely in the wiring for the light or at the safety switch embedded on the side where the door closes----be careful as a 20 amp fuse takes something major to take out. (for it to blow)
This might be best left to a qualified service person.
Just checked the GE website. Had the same problem with my 5 year old microwave. GE website says to close and open the door quickly three times. First time I did this it didn't work. Second time I closed the door with some significant force and reopened it more quickly. Worked. Unplugged the microwave, plugged it back in, still fine.
Our GE jvm1870 is now over 4 yrs old, and had been working fine-- until recently when using, didn't heat anymore & also started making a crazy sound.
Am no electrician, so I called GE to help. Needed a new magnetron & some diode. Part was under a 10 yr warranty- the total cost for service call + labor was under $200. Not great, but beats buying a new microwave ($400-700) and having to install it.
