No sound

The SM58 needs to be connected to a mic input. A guitar amp is expecting a much louder signal then what a mic can put out.

The SM58 uses balanced output. If the starsinger uses a 1/4 inch jack, it is unbalanced input and probbly requires a high impedance rather than the low impedance SM58 mic. You can get an impedance transformer to fix that problem.

Shure SM58 not working. Tried on various pieces of equipment using various configurations of cables and not a sound. Took unit apart and all wiring appears to be intact. The mic has been unused for several...

The SM58 is a dynamic mic. It's actually a very simple device. Thus, it doesn't "degrade". If an SM58 fails, it usually fails catastrophically. Now, the problem for is that you don't know if the failure is in the handle (which includes a transformer) or the cartridge).

You can order a replacement cartridge from Shure and solder it in place, but might be better for you to just send the mic to Shure. I believe they will just replace the mic with a new one for their service fee.

I assume you are using the X2u USB adapter. When plugged in, the X2u acts as your sound card for recording and playback. Thus the playback will be on the headphone jack of the X2u. You can select which sound card to use for playback in the Windows Sound Control Panel.

I cannot hear myself on the microphone shure sm58

What sort of a preamp are u using this needs to be plugged into the lo impedance XLR input (this is a lo output dynamic mic 1.85Mv out)
The XLR should be input pin 2 return (gnd) pin 3.This mic does not NOT use phantom power (48v) if it is a dual input (pin 1 48v) source make sure the phantom power is turned of.
If this is being done then there maybe a problem with the mic.
You can check this by plugging a source in to the input to check that it is working line out from cd player midi or some other source.
