My projection tv sony 51 inch red out of focus

My tv was working good this morning and when i got home i turned it on and it was blury. i tried the flash focus and it did not help. i also tried the adjusting the convergence manually option but the color red crosses were ok in the center but the outside crosses (red only) were to the right of the white crosses..it would let me go up or down but not left or right to match them back up... so that is my problem if anyone could help me that would be great thanks for your time...

Your convergence output IC's have either shorted out or opened up, either way they will have to be replaced and possibly a resistor or two. One distant possiblity is the DCU or the Convergence Yoke, but most likely the IC's. You will probably want a tv repairman to do the repair as there is some soldering to do and some paste/ IC's to install/ calibrate. A repair like this could run from $300 - $500 for IC's depending on who does the repair, The Yoke or DCU would cost a couple hundred more.

hello it sound like the convergance ic may be the problem these chips sit behind the tuner board connected to a metal frame called a heat sink they are soldered in. also you will have to check the resistor in front of the chips also check the 2 capacitors at either end it would be best to get a quote from and engineer good luck

My TV has been in storage for awhile and when we got it home we had a blue screen then it turned off. Now when I turn it on I get a red screen which turns off within seconds.

Ur tv work before it in storage?The storage u put ur tv in,the place is very hot or very cold?U have a good and protections in heavy duty box the tv was in?Take the tv backcover off have an air compressor,have a good cleanning the internal.Tries the tv again.

Screen turns red then shuts off

Sounds like a bad red projection tube, disconnect red tube socket and try again if tv stays on reconnect tube soket and adjust screen controls on front of tv under the front panel which you will have to remove to do any of this. There are six adjustment controls 3 are for focus for each color and 3 screen controls for each color. Look close at the black plastic control module should be labled R G B for focus and R G B for screens. Good Luck!

I have a sony 50 in rear projection. 9 years old

Sounds like the CRT tubes are going out which is fairly common on Sony. Inside the back of the TV there are 6 knobs - 2 for each color...one is for focus - dont touch - the other for brightness...turn down the brightness just a hair untill the lines go away.

Half of the screen is clear and left side of the screen is blury

Its a Common Problem with Projection Tv's ~ If your flash focus is not correcting the problem, And It can Not be Adjusted in your service menu: under Manual Convergence, your IC chips and maybe a few resistoirs may have failed and need to be replaced!... onegeo

Faint red curved lines on Sony KP 51ws500.Converged = no work???

Hi There!
This sounds like a typical problem related to a older CRT.
If you remove the front cover of the tv, you can then remove a wood panel. Behind this panel you will see a block (high voltage splitter) it will have 6 "knobs" on it, 3 will say focus, 3 will say screen.
They will also be labeled R - G - B
Put the tv on a blank input so you can see the lines clearly on a black screen - Find the knob for red, and SLIGHTLY turn it down until the red lines disappear.

ERROR CODE 5 on Hitachi 51 inch

You have a bad convergence circuit, very common problem. A good repairman will run you around $400 to do the repair.

UNDER THE FRONT DOOR PRESS THE BOTTOM BUTTON "FLASH FOCUS" AND SEE IF IT FIXES IT. IF NOT AND YOU SEEN RED DOUBLE OF THE IMAGE, THEN THE SET PROBABLY NEEDS THE CONVERGENCE CIRCUIT REPAIRED.

My screen is blured (focus problems)

This sounds like one of your convergence IC's has burned out. There are 2 IC's in the set and the one that handles RH (Red Horizontal) has stopped working. The IC should be replaced and the set realigned by someone with experience.
