Unable to Finalize Disc/Finalize Option Blacked Out

I have a new camcorder. I initialized the disc, recorded and played back video that I shot. However, when attempting to finalize the disc to play it in a DVD player, the option to "Finalize" the disc is blacked out. I followed the suggestions in the trouble shooting section of the manual and let the player cool for some time, but no luck. Any suggetions?

After spending some time with Canon at 1-800-828-4040 I have found out that there is one small but crucial step missing in their instruction manual on Finalizing the disc. Take battery out and power the camera with the cord plugged into wall socket. Turn camera to the on position and let DVD normalize then when it stops move the on switch downward into the play position. With the viewing window upen you will see thumbnails of the pictures that are on the DVD and a small green light will come on opposite play on the camera. Push function and a menu will come on that says disc operations at the top AT THIS POINT PUSH THE JOYSTICK TO THE RIGHT and you will notice the light move from the right side of the viewing window to the center. Now with the joystick scroll downward until FINALIZE is highlighted even though it is in white, push inward on the set button on joystick and you will get a screen giving you information about how long it will take to finalize and it will ask you if you want to finalize yes or no. Choose yes and it will turn yellow or orangish and will start finalizing. You will also get a progress bar at the bottom as it finalizes. When it is finished finalizing you will note that FINALIZE in the menu has turned black. The one step about pushing the joystick to the right just as soon as you get the menu is crucial. Hope this will spare a lot of people a lot of frustration. I was almost ready to send mine back to the company or junk it.

I don't know if there is any solution. The Canon DC 210 seems to have BIG BIG problems with finalizing, even for those who are plugged in and in Play mode.

Just by plugging it into the charger it worked for me. I am guessing that it does not finalize until you plug it in just in case the battery level is low.
