Question about Sanyo HT32744 32" TV

Sanyo HT32744 Picture mostly green and blue

This TV is only 2yrs old but it is already giving us trouble. Suddenly the picture will turn a ghastly shade of bile green, (faces looking like the Incredible Hulk) with an equally disturbing shade of blue for contrast. This event happens without warning, sometimes it looks like that when the set is turned on, sometimes we can watch it with a normal picture for hours and then it will suddenly change, there is no pattern to it. It affects the video too. Sanyo says a part needs replacing but when it went into the shop they only cleaned the contacts. It came back and worked perfectly for a month, now it has gone again. Sanyo is still offering to replace the part free of charge even though it is no longer under guarantee, but, (you guessed it) the electronics repair shop has very conveniently stopped servicing Sanyo. Any advice would be very welcome.

    Thank you for your reply. Is this an easy repair, one which could be done at the house? This TV weighs 143lbs (23lbs more than me) so it is a major job getting it out of the house and into a repair shop even if we can find someone to tackle it. Another question:- If this is the problem, - solder joints on CRT socket cracked loose - wouldn't they have seen it when it went into the shop in the first place when they only cleaned the contacts?

    I have the same problem with mine. Its out of warranty and I have no one to help me to lift it to take it to repair shop. The nearest one is 60 miles. Can this be done at home?

    I bought 2 Sanyo HDTV's in 2005 and bought have the same identical problem. Sometimes the people are all green and there is no red in the pictures. Other times the color will be O.K. Sometimes you can turn the set off and right back on and the color will return. I am 69, live alone, and I have not taken any steps to resolve the problem because I can't handle them by myself. To hire someone to help me isn't feasible when I still don't know what to do. Can they be returned to the factory?

    Only 1 extra thing to add to the problem. When the TV screen is black and in widescreen or letter box mode. a wave of green flows from left to right. When the wave reaches the right it refreshes back to black just to have the wave flow over the screen again.

    I have the same problem after having the set about a 1 1/2 yrs.I will be watching and everything turns green.I also have the wave thing,and on component 2 I get three vertical lines that flicker three times once in a while.Im out of warranty so Im checking to see if walmarts still sells them so I can buy one then switch it with my lemon to return for a refund.I know thats dishonest but I feel justified as the set is not even 2yrs old!

On mine I took the rear cabinet off, unseated the card mounted on the picture tube, applied a little dielectric grease on the connector on the card and reseated the card, removed, re-greased and reattached the card. I have had no problem with either my or mom's which I did the same to since! This is an easy fix that anyone can do. The hardest part is moving the TV and reassembling the rear cabinet. Do not pull the cabinet back out more than you have to, to ease the reassembly of it.

I usually find that the solder joints on the CRT board have cracked and cause this symptom. What you are describing indicates that the red gun is intermitten, and the solder joints on the CRT socket itself (red cathode) or the red output transistor have probably cracked loose.

Green Screen on an HDTV

I do not believe there is any easy fix to this. The problem may be either in the picture tube or the related circuitry. The worst case scenario is the tube itself is failing. However, it could be as simple as a defective connection on the pc board at the tube for example. You may want to get a technician to check it out and get an estimate before you buy a new set. Good luck

Lower the contrast first.

If colors not in balance, reduce saturation until "normal" to your eye with whichever color (or color pair) out of balance.

Too much green color

Problem solved. I tried playing DVD and the TV picture was fine. So I double-checked cable wires from cable box - one of the wires was loose (obviously it was the red color input). After tightening, the TV picture is good as new.

Suddenly no picture

It's doubtful your dog caused the problem; this model has seemed less reliable than most Sanyo products, there are many threads to be found detailing a number of different failures.

The problem is most likely related to the power supply but its behavior could be caused by protective circuits and a failure in the high voltage section.

You may have trouble having the set repaired for less than the cost of replacement. Parts specific to models over 4-5 years of age may be tough to find and you may be without TV for weeks if you choose to repair it.

Black pic on tv turns green

normally this means the high voltage preamp green control transistor on the neck of the tube circuit board is loose solder connection from heat or is going bad.

Picture is fine, but the sound won't work

Are the yellow, red & white cables RCA phono plugs?

Yellow = Video
Red = Right Audio
White = Left Audio (mono)

The red, blue & green cables are for picture only and don't include sound. Have you tried using the red, blue & green for the picture and using the other cable, red & white for just the sound? Don't use the yellow.

Good luck!
