Question about Mitsubishi CS-40505 TV

Parts I was told by a local deal and repairman that no parts are available for this tv anymore. I had wanted a tuner replaced or fixed. His advice was to take it to the dump and stop by his place and buy a new one. Is he right? Thanks for any info.

I agree with Techman on one point only, don't just throw it away... But if you're sure it's the tuner and you have the ability to remove it send it to Tip Top Tuner http://www.tiptoptuner.com/ and for 27.00 dollars they will rebuild it to factory new. PTS, if they do it at all, will be far more expensive.

NO! he is not right. He wants to make a sale! Go to ptscorp.com, get the telephone number and tell them the numbers off the sides of the tuner. Or give them the model number. If they do not have a tuner(and I am sure they will, ask them how much it would be, if you sent them the tuner in your set to be overhauled. Good Luck

Some of these parts are no longer available. The manufacturers are only required (by law) to have replacement parts for 5 years. If the set is popular enough, some parts will be available generically. I will look up your model to get the part number and try to locate one for you.

Have you tried Ebay, or perhaps Craigs list? On CL you might find one with other problems and get it cheap.

I had a repairman out and he told me I needed a circute board for the tv,but this part is no longer available and to junk the tv.
Most Repairmen are board level technicians, what you need is a component level tech, Keep looking, they are still there. I was a component service man for 25 years and a service manager, I should know.

If ut is not a digital tuner then you will not pick up any stations. Look at your owners manual to see if the tuner is digital. If its not then you will have to buy a digital converter box.

I've got one of those, too. Tuner's been out since 1997 from lightning storm. Tuner was not available then,not available now. It's an ancient beast-- you won't find parts for it--not worth $20, anyway.

Broken external Tv tuner for a JVC VM42X795 Plasma TV
You should be able to replace either the F-connector or the entire tuner. I don't have a listing for your specific model, so I can't supply the part number. Check with a local JVC servicer.

Sound problem...
I spoke with a local repair person about the problem. He told me this has been an issue with this model since day one. He told me to unplug the TV for 15 minutes and then plug it back in. It should work fine... It did! He said this should work every time and replacing the part doesn't solve the problem.

I hope this helps someone else!

These Hitachi models are a bear but this may be the fix: Regulator STRM 6511 and C915. A good tv repairman should know this. This should be changed first before determining that the high voltage transformer is bad which is likely to be the worse case senario and may not be available anymore.
