As far as I can tell there is not a mini-pci slot on the D-8830. It only supports a type I or II PC Card.

Does the acer aspire 7551g -7606 have a msata slot?

Apparently there isn't that many reviews out there yet, for an Acer Aspire 7551-7606
(I found one, and it was SERIOUSLY lacking)

From Acer Support,

http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/notebook/2010/Acer/Aspire/Aspire7551/Aspire7551sp2.shtml

Input and Output: HDMI port

I would think that slot next to the Ram Memory is for a Wireless Module. ('Wireless Card')

I believe the Acer T77H167.07 module is used. Used in a LOT of Acer laptops,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acer-Aspire-7741Z-Atheros-Wifi-Wireless-Card-T77H167-07-HF-AR5B97-/251001063265

Now would it use a Mini-SATA slot, or a Mini-PCI-E slot?

Mini-PCI-Express slot. You wouldn't want a wireless module using a slow SATA slot.

It's probably PCI-Express 2.0 technology that is used.

The best that SATA will move data is, SATA 3 at 6Gigabits per Second, (6Gb/s)

[NOTE*
Not Bytes -> Bits.
A Byte is considered to be 8 bits.
8 Characters. Whether they are numbers, letters, or symbols.
A bit is considered to one character ]

PCI-Express 2.0 with a 32-lane connector can transfer data back, and forth at 16GB/s

16 GigaBytes per Second,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express#PCI_Express_2.0

8 GB/s one direction (Send), and 8GB/s the other direction. (Receive)

How to change wi fi card

Usually the cards for wifi in laptops are called mini pci cards- there will be a slot on the bottom of the laptop that you can open to remove the card. Other options for changing out include using a pc card (also known as PCMCIA/ Cardbus/ etc) or an USB wireless adapter. I personally suggest the USB, since it would not void warranty, and overall would be a cheaper solution

IBM R40 2722 1802 Error Message

This is due to the fact that IBM laptops have a list of accepted devices, and the pci card is not recognised in the list. On IBM - Amilo, Mini PCI card slot is usually at the back of computer. Locate and remove Mini PCI wireless card, you will not have integrated wireless after this.
Other solution is to find the option to disable mini PCI in bios settings.
Here is how mini pci wireless card looks like:

Acer Aspire Mini PC

Hi, you will be able to purchase a mini ATX format board by almost any manufacturer that will fit the acer case, the only problem you may hve is the PCI and Graphics cards will need to be low profile standards but these are also available if you are not planning on gaming then the on board graphics on most new boards will do all you ask of them.
