Hi Wayne ,

If it fell off the edge of your bed last night it is likely that you have damaged the mouse track pad in some way.

you might have to order a new one off of ebay and have someone fit it for you !!

Or it might be as simple as the ribbon cable in the track pad has come loose and will need to be refitted.

can you see the movement of the track pad in the right hand bottom corner of the screen when you move the mouse with the track pad and by using an external USB mouse to get to the desktop?

try using the usb mouse then go into control panel>system>hardware>device manager. Click on the +sign next to touch pad or pointing devices and right click on touchpad, then click on uninstall. Reboot the computer, unplug the usb mouse and the touchpad should be picked up as new hardware and be re-installed.

SOURCE: mouse pad

you would be better off using an optical mouse that has a usb or ps2 connector ( depending on what your laptop supports ) usb would be better though less chance of pins bending as there are none on a usb connection ( at least not like a ps2 connector )

Also download the latest drivers for the touchpad and make sure that the scrolling options for or on the touchpad are not configured too thickly which will be in the touch pad settings.

My Lenovo mouse won't work. It connects and registers but won't move? Is there any help?

Hello,

Try booting to safe mode and check if your mouse works inside safe mode.

Restart the computer and tap F8 until you see the options to boot to safe mode. Use the arrow keys to highlight either safe mode or safe mode with networking. Hit enter.

Once you are inside safe mode, check if your mouse works. If it works, then you just need to update the mouse driver. You can use RadarSync to search and install the update into your computer. You better use Safe Mode with Networking because RadarSync needs the internet or even the manual updating process needs an internet connection.

I hope this helps!

Milk was spilled on the touchpad of my laptop the cursor moves but it won't click

You need to replace the touch pad or you can connect an USB mouse to your laptop and not use the touch pad.

If you have a external mouse, or you can borrow, go into device manager to see if the pad is enabled, if okay! try a system restore bringing the computer back in time before this happened, if still no luck the sensor pad maybe defective, the last option a complete recovery of the operational system to factory setting, this will prove if the sensor pad is defective, or wire ribbon might have come loose from the motherboard.

When I try to plug in an external Mouse my Acer Aspire One is asking me to download hidusb.sys from the XP Home Edtion Service Pack 3 CD?

I'll assume your touchpad and built-in mouse are not working, hence your need for the USB mouse. If the touch pad and built-in mouse are working but you find them awkward to use (another reason some users connect USB mice to notebooks), then you might find it easier to briefly persevere and use the touchpad and built-in mouse for only a few seconds just to complete the simple steps outlined below. If not, the keyboard method detailed below is less efficient and more cumbersome but equally effective.
This driver that is being requested is already built-in to Windows. Use the TAB and down or up arrows keys on your keyboard to move the cursor to the button you want to activate -> press the ENTER key to activate the button that the cursor has settled on keys on your Click Next -> No (to alternative search methods) -> search the whole computer for the driver -> next -> finish -> if your USB mouse does not work straight away, press the windows logo key bottom left of your keyboard -> the use the keyboard arrow keys to move once up and then left to the shutdown button -> press ENTER -> use the arrow keys to move the cursor to RESTART -> press ENTER.

I cannot move the arrow

Perhaps your mouse is not plugged in to the computer. If your mouse is a usb mouse it will have an end of it that looks like this:
http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/4/2008/11/usb3.jpg
It probably isn't blue on the inside though. It's probably silver or black
If your mouse is a ps2 mouse then it will look like this:

If the mouse is a ps2 mouse then when you plug it back in you will need to log off and then log back on to your computer for it to work. To log off you can press the windows key that looks like this:
http://daily-grind.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Windows-Key-722215.jpg
and then use the tab button to navigate to the log off button and hit enter. Then hit tab until you can select yes and hit enter.

If it is a usb mouse then you can just plug it back in and it will work.

My cursor froze.

this is a software or possibly a touch pad mouse issue. First you can quickly correct this by going to accessories located under start in Vista and going to system recovery. Tell it in that section to revert to an earlier time. Remember when the mouse was working? What date? click on the date when the mouse was working and click next.

The computer will reboot and mouse should be working. If not the mouse touch pad may need to be replaced. Buy a usb mouse for now if you have to work on it immediatly.

Disable the joystick mouse in the center of the keyboard. Doubleclick Mouse in the Control Panel (Start/Settings/Control Panel). On the end tab, disable the thumbstick mouse. For my IBM Thinkpad, it's under UltraNav and I disable TrackPoint.

Touch pad will not work

Hold down the FN button and up on the top of the keyboard there will be a button with a picture of a mouse. As your holding down your FN button hit the other button and see if it enables your mouse. Something should come up on the screen showing you that its enabling or disabling the mouse.
