Try turning off ice maker for a day. remove the bucket that holds the ice. look all around bucket and into ice maker to determin if there is a jam, or if there is a cube stuck there preventing operation. Check that the ice arm can move freely and it is properly inserted on both ends. Make sure there is nothing in your freezer that could be getting in the way of the ice maker operation, either above or below the unit. One hint-wear disposable gloves when working with the ice maker-if you have any moisture on your hands, you tend to stick to the unit.

WHY DOES MY ICE MAKER ONLY MAKES ICE SOMETIME

Are the cubes normal - the right size, not hollow? Once frozen and the harvest cycle begins, does it take longer than a couple minutes for the cubes to drop? After the ice drops does it fill with water each time?
If everything checks OK the last thing is very important. The rate at which an ice maker produces cubes depends on the temperature of the freezer - the colder it is the quicker the cycle. Try nudging the controls up a bit and wait 24 hours.

Ice cube dispenser

make sure the ice maker lever is in the down position, when removing the tray the arm was probably moved to the top(off) position as if the tray was actually full which would shut off the ice making process

GE refrigerator is not making ice

There are several types of ice makers with the same model number. Some of my questions may seem over - the - top, but I do not know your level of ability. Do not take offense.

Did this ice maker ever work before, or is it a newly installed maker or a factory installed maker in a new fridge? Have you moved the power switch to on? If yours has an LED power indicator, is it off, blinking or on? Off means there's no power to the maker - you'll need to get the maker powered up before going further (make sure the electrical power connector is mated fully). Blinking means cubes have become stuck in the maker. You'll have to shut the maker off, remove the cubes then power up again. On means it is powered and is working normally. Is the freezer compartment set to maintain a temperature lower than 15 degrees F (-9 C)? The ice maker will not make ice unless the temperature is below 15 F (-9 C). The space under the maker must remain clear of obstructions so that the sweeper arm is not blocked (when blocked indicates a full ice container and will halt ice production until the arm can move freely again). The maker may need as many as 3 cycles (approx 6 hours) before all the air in the ice maker's water lines have been purged completely.

Listen for the solenoid valve to operate. Every couple of hours, this valve should operate and an audible click on and click off heard after a several seconds (as long as set on the ice maker cube size adjustment knob). When this solenoid has clicked on, water should be flowing through the lines and filling the ice maker. If not, there is an obstruction that must be cleared. A dirty or improperly installed filter, pinched line, and even ice can interrupt flow to the ice maker. You might need to remove the ice maker from the freezer to check the water supply line that feeds it for the presence of ice. Melt / clear as needed.

NEED PROCEDURE FOR REMOVING THE ICE MAKER FOR INSPECTION AND TROUBLESHOOTING. FRIG IS NEW...ICE MAKER NOT MAKING ICE !!!!!

Are you sure you have the ice bin properly in place?

Ice bin must be locked in place for proper ice dispensing. If necessary, turn auger driver behind ice bin counterclockwise to properly align ice bin with auger driver.

ā€¢ Press the switch ON to activate ice maker. Slide bin into guide rails located on either side of the enclosure. Push the ice bin in until resistance is felt. Raise the front slightly and push the ice bin completely in. An audible "click" is heard when the ice bin is located correctly.

ā€¢ After freezer section reaches between 0Ā° to 2Ā° F (-18Ā° to -17Ā° C), ice maker fills with water and begins operating. You will have a complete harvest of ice

approximately every hour.

ā€¢ Allow approximately 3 to 6 hours after installation to receive first harvest of ice.

ā€¢ Discard ice created within the first 12 hours of operation to verify system is flushed of impurities.

ā€¢ Stop ice production by pressing the ON/OFF switch located on the front of the ice maker.

ā€¢ The first one or two batches will probably contain undersized and irregular cubes because of air in the supply line.

ā€¢ When the ice cubes are ejected it is normal for several cubes to be joined together at the ends. They can easily be broken apart. The ice maker will

continue to make ice until the supply of ice cubes raises the ice maker arm, shutting the ice maker off.

ā€¢ Certain sounds may accompany the various cycles of the ice maker. The motor may have a slight hum, the cubes will rattle as they fall into an empty storage bin and the water valve may click or "buzz" occasionally.

Ice maker has ice motor doen't dump the ice

Your ice-maker may need to be "hard-reset". To do this, perform a manual-defrost by emptying out the freezer (and fridge) and shutting all power off to your unit for several hours (at least half a day unless you can be sure the temp in the freezer has fully reached ambient. Next, with freezer empty, restore power, make sure the "ice" setting is set to off, then set the forced power-freeze mode (you can refill the fridge, but leave the freezer empty for now. When the power-freeze completes (at least 2.5 hours) you can refill the freezer, set the "ice" mode to block/crushed (IE something other than off) and then hit the "black reset button" to restart the ice-maker. IF it still will not dump the cubes then the ice sensor/control board may have failed.

Ice maker

This should fill up automatically. It takes 24 hours to have that basket full of ice cubes it might take longer depends on conditions. The arm inside is what controls the ice maker, make sure it's facing downward. Give it a change. You can take out the basket also to inspect problems. If you don't see what you any ice cubes in 24 hours then have that service. Or you can do it yourself if you want.

Ice maker doesn't make enough ice to supply two senior citizens. This is the 2nd refrigerator we have had installed this month. What can we do to increase the amount of ice it puts out. The ice bin has...

Found in the FAQ section on Samsung.com:
Samsung refrigerator freezers produce about 120 cubes per day, which is in line with most manufacturer specifications.
Empty the ice tray and let the unit run for 24 hours.
If fewer than 50 cubes are produced during the 24-hour test, then your refrigerator requires service. Please contact Samsung Service at 1-800-SAMSUNG to schedule a service appointment.
If your freezer is producing 50 to 90 cubes per day, try the following:
  • Set the freezer temperature display to a lower setting. Freezer temperature must be 5 degrees Fahrenheit or less for the ice maker to work properly.
  • Make sure that the water valve on the refrigerator water supply line is completely open. You can find the water valve where the refrigerator water supply line taps into your house water line.
  • If you have a water filter in your refrigerator, change the filter cartridge. For instructions, see your Users Manual.
If you want your freezer to produce more than 120 ice cubes in a day, try the following:
  • An ice maker typically makes 1 tray of ice every 90 minutes. To shorten the amount of time the freezer takes to produce a tray of ice, set the freezer temperature display to a lower setting.
  • If your refrigerator has a Power Freeze function, press the Power Freeze button to speed up the ice making process. In the Power Freeze mode, both the compressor and the freezer fan run for 10 hours continuously. The ice making interval is reduced from 90 minutes to 55 minutes. If the ice bucket fills in less than 10 hours, Power Freeze stops automatically.
NOTE: If you have just installed your refrigerator, it will take 6 to 12 hours for the refrigerator to produce ice.
You should throw away the first three batches of ice cubes that the ice maker produces (approximately 30 cubes) to ensure the ice maker is making ice from clean water.
