Garmin Street Pilot C550 went dead

I took apart the unit & didn't see the lithium battery. I saw this long tube like thing that was next to the speakers on both ends. I thought that Lithium batteries were metal, however I can't seem to find it in the unit or see anything that says battery on It. The unit was working for me when I went out to the store & after I got back into my car It didn't work

Does anyone have a picture of what this battery is supposed to look like? This May will be 2 years since i bought it & i have no service plan on it. I thought that electronics were supposed to last longer then this. I hope that this is a simple solution

Thank you

Mark

Did you try reset button? There's also a 2 amp fuse in the cigarette lighter plug in charger. If it's blown and battery is dead unit won't work.

Page 31 of the users manual suggests a "master reset" procedure. Hold finger on lower right of screen while powering unit on.

SOURCE: GARMIN LOCK

Hello!

Place your thumb nail in the groove located under the Garmin logo on the bezel.

Gently pull off the faceplate.

Press the reset button.

If it still asks for a code and you don't have it, it should ask you to drive to a secret location to unlock the device. If you don't know the location, the only other option you have is to send the unit to Garmin to be unlocked. You can also try to call Garmin with the serial number and see if they can do something less annoying to unlock it.

SOURCE: how do you change lithium ion battery in garmin streetpilot c530

The unit can be opened by removing the frame around the screen. However if you are still under warranty you will void it. The battery is not an easily replaceable one since it is soldered into the unit but if you are hany with a soldering iron it is fairly straightforward. However you have to find the correct battery which you can do with an online search.

I do not have the unlock pin for a garmin street pilot c550 I dont have the security location either

Your only other option is to return the unit to Garmin. Be aware, however, if you are not the owner of record, they will not return the GPS unit to you.

Help me unlock my gps i do not remember my pin # all i can remember is there is 6 # in the pin please help me

Take it back to the 'secure location' as indicated in your service manual. It will automatically unlock when it gets a full satellite signal. You have to enter the PIN number twice when setting up the unit. You should always use a number which is familiar to you so you can remember it. If you can't remember it, and if your secure location doesn't unlock the unit, you will need to send the unit to Garmin to unlock it. You will need your receipt for Garmin to unlock the unit.

My garmin Street Pilot just went dead on me.

I got back into my vehicle today to go get my mom at the airport. I plugged the unit In & It worked. I suspect that It is the battery. After I shut off the engine I got the message that says do you want to still operate on battery power. I clicked ok but it said low battery. So now I have it charging by using my portable air compressor. So hopefully It doesn't die on me for at least another few years or if It does then It's time to upgrade to the Nuvii

Thanks for the people that replied to my question.

Unlock c510

Take the unit to where your nephew was playing with it, and it will automatically unlock. Otherwise, you'll need to send it in to Garmin with the receipt from an authorized dealer.
