Vcr is displaying error E4 and when I eject the tapes, the casset makes it out, but is stuck because the tape is still wrapped up inside. Is this fixable?
I got the tape out in one piece, and I tried to run the head cleaner through. It won't even play a tape. The tapes aren't getting wrapped up, they are just not winding back up when I eject it. Is one of the wheels not spinning??I got the tape out in one piece, and I tried to run the head cleaner through. It won't even play a tape. I believe I found the issue. The capstan motor is not even engaging. Do you know where I can find another one of these for this model?I believe I found the issue. The capstan motor is not even engaging. Do you know where I can find another one of these for this model?
It turns out that it was the capstan motor. I found one for my model available online for $60. That will not do..
However, I found someone nearby selling my exact model on craig's list. His had an issue with the tension roller. I replace my capstan motor with his, and now it works perfectly. The belt is in perfect condition.

Used Sony 8 hour tape which is possibly slightly thinner and it got eaten up inside the fast rewind and is still stuck in there. I got the cassette out but the tape is hanging out the front on both sides. Any chance I can remove the tape and save.Used Sony 8 hour tape which is possibly slightly thinner and it got eaten up inside the fast rewind and is still stuck in there. Re:
Yes with care.
Simply remove the cover and with care unwrap the tape.
If you must break the tape - but make sure all residual tape is cleanly removed.
Re assemble and put a tape head cleaner through- following the instructions.
Can you operate the machine with the cover off? Then you will see what is/not happeningCan you operate the machine with the cover off?

they don't make VCR's any more - so new spares are going to be problematic
It is possible that small parts are common So look around for something that has been junked to cannibalize. Most like however the capstan does not spin because the belt has broken Now belts should be about, cab can be made from another belt cut to size and joined with Super Gluethey don't make VCR's any more - so new spares are going to be problematic

I don't know what this error code means but I have managed to remove tapes which stuck in a VCR and cannot be ejected. Whether you do this is purely up to you, but it's usually possible to remove the casing (carefully!) so that you can get to the tape-handling section. Then it's a matter of gentle probing & trial and error to get the machine to release its hold on the tape. Look for a series of mechanically linked parts which are driven by motor but activated by a microswitch tripped by action of inserting the tape. Just don't strain the linkages and if you remove anything make a note of where it came from.
I've checked the entire user manual which notes problems like this need to be referred to authorized service personnel.
Myself, I would unplug the entire unit, put it on a kitchen table using a phillips (cross-tip) screwdriver to remove the top metal shell. Remove at least 2 screws each side and 2-5 rear screws securing the top.
Nothing like peering inside to see what is causing the VCR to get stuck and help remove it.
No release pinhole or tape freeing ejector will work if the unit's tape is tightly wound around some internal object or the tape is stuck because something foreign is inside the unit.
Best of success.

There is either some damage to the mechanism or the mode switch is faulty. If you know what to look for taking the top cover off might show what part of the mechanism is damaged.
If it is the mode switch then it will need to be replaced. This can't be done without the service manual as the vcr needs to be set up. And they are never set up in the eject position.
Unplug the VCR, take the cover off, find the motor (probably on the
right side of the mechanism) and turn its shaft with your fingers until
you have run the tape back out. Now plug it back in and try it
again with a scarificial tape. If it continues to fail, replace
all the rubber belts in the mechanism.
Hope ya fix it!
This is a tape transport problem and is expensive to fix. Unless you know a cheap tech, it's time for a new one. Be patient loading and unloading tapes. This is usually what causes this problem. The Yellow warning sticker is REALLY important. Another important item is to always use the same brand of tape because switching tapes causes a gummy build-up the makes tapes get caught in the machine. Videoteacher
my tape got stuck too, i opened the bottom, then located the mechanism that started the eject program. After turning some wheels the eject automatically started.
Try that...
