Disc Read Error-My ps2 only reads certain discs

Recently, my PS2 has stopped reading all silver bottom discs. Now it only reads blue bottomed and Audio CDs. I've already tried cleaning the lense and moving the white gear around. Please help!

The optic needs to be replaced ,the part cost its around 45.00 but you need to provide model, serial# and manufactured date . or you can sen the unit for a repair around 120.00. let me know if you need more info

sounds like your laser is failing. You can find tutorials on how to adjust, clean or replace your laser. Do a google search for " ps22_bing.gif disc read error " it will give you a choice of plenty of tutorials to follow. Good luck

PS2 won't read disk

A lot of time, blue disks have much more problems being read than others. Same with golden disks. Honestly, the best thing you can do, is clean your lense in your ps2 with a Q-tip and a SMALL amount of rubbing alcohal. If its the thin ps2, then all you have to do is open the top and do this. if its the older version of ps2, then you need to open it up, and unscrew the top of the drive to do so, then you will see the lense. I used to have this problem frequently. Andn this is how i solved it. however, its a temperary fix, and you will keep having to do it. honestly, if its already starting to do this, you will probably in the future have more trouble with even silver disks, and black (ps1) disks. If you just bought this ps2, i would suggest gettingg your money back. if you got it for free or something similar... you might just want to either get a new drive (if its an old style one) or buy a new one alltogether if you want to not have to go in and clean the lense every 2 weeks.

Will not read blue discs no problem with clear(silver) ones tho.

1. Apparently, blue PS2 discs are lighter than silver ones, so they tend to move around more when the PS2 is reading them. To fix this, you can put duct tape on the top of the disc. This will make it heavier, so it won't move around too much and it should make reading the disc easier for your poor PS2. People have told me that this indeed works (but not always). Don't go overboard with the tape though. Attempt at your own risk. 2. If the problems occurs when the PS2 is horizontal, try putting it into its vertical position. Or try putting it horizontal if it is vertical. 3. Use a can of compressed air to clean dust out of the system. 4. Make sure your game discs are not the problem. Keep them as clean as possible. Even small scratches can cause problems. 5. Open up your PS2 and clean it out or try adjusting the lens. Very risky and voids your warranty. 6. Try using a DVD lens cleaner (for problems reading silver discs) or a CD lens cleaner (for blue disc problems). 7. Send your system to Sony for repairs. Due to a lawsuit, Sony may have to repair your PS2 for free even if there is no warranty. Contact Sony for details. That is all the advice I can give. If the len(s) cleaners or compressed air don't work, then you are probably just out of luck. There is no magic way to suddenly get your PS2 working again without professional repair.

The trick to getting the discs to play on any [email protected] (old or new) when they are black or blue is to put a piece of tape lengthwise and width wise around the hole in the disc on the topside (picture-side) of the disc. What this does is add weight to the disc and thus allows the PS2 to read it more accurately. I had bought many older titles not too long ago and was disappointed when they didn't work. Then I spoke with a Japanese expert online and he suggested using scotch tape around the hole in the disc and it worked instantly. Don't be fooled into buying a new PS2, just a roll of scotch tape. You'll only need four one inch strips.

Disc doesn't play

yes its 100% lens problem.the lense of the ps2 consists of two parts, one is the one that reads the dvd disc and the other one that reads the cd-r only.the dvd reader is already busted that is why it only recognises only some cds which are cd-r's.try replacing the lens and you can play dvd discs again.hope this one helps

Sounds like you need to get your money back ..the resurfaceing can also do more bad than good
But a little trick lightly rub a crayon over the disk ,,old pantyhose works great rub it off from center out then try your disk ,,have saved many good games that way
