There is always a shadow on one side of the pages!!!

A few questions:
- Did this problem just start?

- Was there a paper jam and when the paper was dislodged the next few sheets were streaked? Running a few more pages usually clears this.

- Is this a new toner cartridge? Did you just change the cartridge? Are you low on toner? Try removing the cartridge and gently rocking it back and forth, side to side. This will distribute the toner more evenly.

- Is this a heavier weight paper then previously used? Try going back to the old weight and see if the problem continues.

Depending on what exactly isn't playing when is what I don't know from your info. So I can tell you two situations and two possible things to try. Generally I do not have any missing videos like you describe. Once in a while I do so hopefully we can nail this down.

The first description would be seeing the page fairly normally and then inside the video player area it might say not available or will be blank. The second is you might get a blurb of sound and images then no video but garbled sound.

In the first case that is usually an issue at the server side. I've just disconnected and then tried again. Sometimes it works right away and the odd time within a day or so. It will depend on what is really wrong. I usually always get this on new released programs.

The other is when it starts to play then stops but you get some sound continuing. This is a player or javascript error. You can try different browsers to view and see if that works. Sometimes one will have a different version or player plugin or update of javascript and will work. This one happens to me on quite annoyingly regular occurrence. I've tried different browsers which sometimes works, different computers and even different operating systems (windows, linux, mac) one right after the other. Strangely the one thing that works as well sometimes is a slower connection speed.

So basically expat itself should have zero to do with the problem but you may have issues with the player plugins, JavaScript, or even a firewall or pop up blocker and anti-advertisement plugins. From my experience with this the majority of the time is it a javascript error on the website. If you can connect to say youtube and watch videos without expat and while running expat then the problem is nothing to do with your end. Just have to keep on trying. to connect.

The toner is leaking. The toner cartridge has two compartments, one for new toner & another for waste toner. When the waste toner compartment is becoming full to its capacity it starts throwing extra toner outside of it. That is what is called toner leaking. If you can empty the contents of the waste toner compartment, your problem will be solved. One more thing if wiping blade for waste toner is worn out, it also leads to toner leaking.

Try a different toner cartridge

remove toner/drum unit from the printer. remove toner from drum unit and shake toner cart. side-side to loosen toner inside. On top front of the drum unit there is a purple/blue button that will slide right-left. Do this a few times to clean the wire. If there's a lot of loose toner, take a vacuum and clean carefully. Put everything back inside. With front door still open, hold GO/Control button down until all lights have lit, then let go, close front cover.

If you still have the shadow over the page, it's most likely the toner cart and you need to buy a new one (or recond.-refill) at someplace like Office Depot or Staples.

Problem
Dell 1700 printer prints out a page announcing that “the photoconductor has reached its useable life and it needs to be replaced for a new one”. You replace the photoconductor for a new one and the error light is still blinking and the printer keeps on printing the above mentioned page.
Solution
Steps to Reset the Photoconductor:

1. Power off printer
2. Open the front cover.
3. Press the continue button; while pressing the continue button power on the printer and wait (still pressing the continue button) until the error led is solid, then release the continue button.
4. Close the front door, all light should be solid.
5. Wait until POST finishes.
6. Press the Cancel button 4 times slowly, the toner led should be solid.
7. Press the Continue button until all lights go up and down, then release; the Toner Low led is solid.
8. Power off printer and then back on.
9. Press continue button once, print a test page.
10. Check the information about the photoconductor in test page, it should display an OK status.

Note: if these steps don’t work for the first time repeat three times. If still the steps don’t work, the printer needs to be replaced for a new one.

This is probably due to a defective cartridge, Charge Roller or Transfer roller.

Check the cartridge for a band of toner still on the drum.

Check the Charge roller for oil or smudges, this roller should be a lighter color and should be relatively free of toner or marks.

Same as the Transfer Roll, which will be dark, though excess toner should be evident.

A relatively smooth straight line is generally the cartridge.

A rather wavey or broken line is most likely the rollers.

You can however attempt to print a large amount of pages (25-50) in an attempt to clean the parts, however if either part is defective they will need to be replaced and no manner of printing will clean them.

Do you run a laser printer (you ve mentioned toner). If yes. plz post under your printer (e.g. HL-2040 etc.).
