Memory storage falty

When I bought the verbatim Store 'n' Go USB Device 1 GB. it was devided into two sections (Private sone and general sone )and a password was required to enter. Now the password entry dissapeared and I have only 192 MB availlable. At a cost of about 80 Dollars it is a waste. Can it be fixed. Please help. Thank You Gabriel

Let me explain... I Know very little about computers. It will be better if you take it easy with me..(70 y.o) I just bought this device to store all my photos and be able to enjoy them on the TV. Under properties of this device it allows for formatting...Is this what you mean.

    Under Properties

    Format Public zone (F:)

    Capacity 193 MB

    File System Fat32

Allocation Unit size Default allocation size

    Volume Label Public zone

    Format options
    Quick format
    Enable compression
Create a MS-Dos start up disk.

When I used the device the first time It required a password to open the private secion and you had the choice to enlarge or decrease the memory of either of the two sections. I stored some sensitive material on the private section and it is now assumed lost.

    THanks
    Gabriel

You must please take it easy with me (70Y.o) I dont now much about computers.
Wjhen I bought this device it hat a private and general zone and the memory allocation to both section could be reduced or increased. The Private section had to be opened by means of a password only... Now all is gone no password or the rest of tjhe memory space.

Under properties of the UBS device it states.

    Format Publiczobe (F:)

    Capacity 193MB

    File System Fat32

Allocation Unit size Default allocation size

    Volume label Publiczone

    Format Options

    Quick format
    Enable compression
Create a MS-Dos start up disk

My problem is still there...I supposew I will have to write off the money I paid to getit fixed. I need to be guided through the process of down loading software to fix it. What to download and how to use it. There is quite a number of downloads. I could have it looked at locally, but I am not sure how much is left on the section That I cannot use. That info should not be available to anyone. That is why I decided to use your offer. If it could not be fixed, I will have to destroy it completely and buy a new one. I am in the private detective business.(Divorce only)

I agree with Noggin. This device can most likely be made useable for you again, but we would have to know exactly which device it is to give you the advice you need. This includes: - model number - serial number - color of the device We could write a detailed description to instruct you on how to download and implement the correct software that will restore your device to useability, but the software is very specific regarding these details - which is why we need to know these things before writing instructions on how to repair it.

You should be able to format the drive using the appropriate software - if you don't have it you should be able to download it from this link; http://www.verbatim.com/support/downloads.cfm If it doesn't let you format it back to the original configuration then there could well be a more serious problem - let me know what results you get and exactly which type of drive you have and i can hopefully help if you have no luck with formatting. Good luck :)

Try formatting the public zone from the properties as you have seen - try a quick format first, then check and you may find the private zone / password is back.

If not then if you look again, the publiczone is labelled F: - check through the list again and you should have listed A: which is your floppy disc drive, C: which is your computer hard drive D: and E: may be extra hard drives if you have more than one or they would more usually be CD or DVD drives.

F: is the publiczone part of your USB drive, it may be that the private zone is labelled similarly, but as G: or H: etc. if so, try to open it and it should prompt you for the password, properties should also give you the same options as for the public zone, but it will at some point in the process need the password to continue.

Think of your USB drive as two separate drives that have no real connection to eachother if that makes it easier to understand.

I need to know exactly which drive you have to give any more detail, there are several different 1Gb store 'n' go models.

Also would be useful to know which operating system you are using - I am guessing windows - please tell me which version.

    :)

In order to talk you through the steps required to download the necessary software to tyr and fix your problem, I need to know from you which computer operating system you are using. It may be windows XP, windows Vista, windows 2000, windows ME, windows 98, windows 95, windows 3.11, Mac OS?, or several more. If you are unsure of this detail then just watch your computer as it is starting up, somewhere in the initial screens it should tell you.

The reason why I couldn't be specific about which software you need to download exactly, is that there are several different versions of the Verbatim "Store n Go" 1Gb. If you are unsure exactly which version you have, then look very carefully for any serial numbers, or any instructional paperwork that came with the storage device.

If you let me know this information then I can hopefully help.

Please do not give up until you have tried to fix the problem by giving us the required information.

    :)
