Hi sarahrmega
At another computer, please, go HERE and download Belarc Advisor pc audit utility. This utility will audit your pc's hardware and software.
You may want to also go HERE and download CPU-Z (another pc audit utility (it will only audit hardware)).
Now, "sneakernet" those downloads over to the Pavilion 6700 and install/run them.
Post back here w/ the chipset that is identified for your motherboard and any other information relevant to your integrated (built-in) wired and wireless NICs.
This will, hopefully, lead us to where we might be able to find XP drivers for your integrated hardware.

Please, let me know if this response was a "FixYa"
or "Helpful" for you or, of course, if you have
any additional questions, etc on this topic.
If the information I provided you w/ resolved your
problem or lead you to a resolution for your
problem or an answer to your question, then, a
"FixYa" rating would be most appreciated. @:)
It is best to wait until the problem has been
resolved b4 scoring the experts who participated in
solving your problem or answering your question.
(Once you enter a rating, the problem will be
closed and we will not be able to continue to assist
you.)
Very often it will take more than one exchange of
information between you and an expert in order to
resolve your problem. If a proposed solution
doesn't work for you, don't rate it yet. Instead,
post back here letting us know and we'll continue to
work w/ you until we find a solution that does work
for you.
Thank you
BJ @:)

SOURCE: how to install windows xp in hp pavilion dv4-1125nr series???
You should install Windows XP that came with your computer with the recovery program that is built-in with an HP computer. The Windows that comes with your computer includes all the drivers and software needed specifically for an HP Laptop.
Here's a link to HP's website outlining all the ways to Recover your Laptop and reinstall your Windows XP Operating System back to factory default including how to create a set of your own Recovery Disks:

since the system got dropped off, different components would have been affected. From the information that you have provided, the LCD and motherboard appears to be two of the affected components. Since it is difficult to determine all the components that may have been affected by the accident, I would suggest contacting HP for support and ask if there is a repair center where you can take your computer for thorough testing. If you have an HP diagnostics utility, connect an external monitor to your computer and run the diagnostics. Note any error codes of beep codes which can help isolate the situation.
SOURCE: install vista to hp pavilion dv5 laptop
Make sure the laptop meets or exceeds the resources needed to run Vista. For all versions of Vista, at least a 1 ghz processor or higher, and 20 to 25 GB of free space on the hard drive. Memory: 512 for Vista Home basic, 1GB or higher for Vista Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate. The video in the laptop must be 16 mb or higher. You MUST meet the minimum requirements or the install and startup will fail.
