Hello,
I actually have a hotpoint FFA47X FRIDGE/FREEZER. Its about 18 mths old. A short while ago the warning bleep started to bleep constantly for days telling me freezer was too warm. I defrosted freezer with a hairdryer for the first time as it meant to be frost free and it took me over two hours. The fan was encased in ice and so too were all the foil elements in the casing at the top of freezer. Swithced it back on and it was fine for another month or so. Now the warning bleeps have started again, the freezer not working and iced up, and fridge not very cool either. The unit is stored between two larder units, though it has good ventilation back and top. i have pulled unit out from between the two units and away from the wall in the hope that better ventilation might cure it. I realise i need to defrost it again but what do you think the cause of ice build up could be? Door seals are fine, we dont open it often and dont store too much stuff inside either. Perhaps the fost free system broken? Is the water meant to escape through an outlet near the fan?
I very much appreciate your expertise on this.
Regards,
Jo

Re: Freezer not working
There is a defrost fault - quite common with these hotpoint. fault could lie with the module or stats associated with defrost or possibly the heater itself. most probable is the module but impossible to localize by remote control.
water drains away thro a hole in the centre of the tray underneath the evaporator

Model number? Usually that is warning that something is wrong. Example defrost not working properly thermistors are defective, or door open. Need your model number to give you answers Appliance 911 Sea Breeze
there is a little air passage that allows the cold air form the freezer to cool the refrigerator is blocked or jammed closed check that first then you can get back to me
Turn the second knob at the top to off (freezer knob) turn the fridge freezer off. Then turn it back on. That may sort it. Or you may need to totally defrost the machine as there could be some ice blocking some vents. May need to remove the back panel of the freezer for this (inside).
Hotpoint FFA47X fridge/freezer. I have had this fridge for 3 years now and has always on regular occasions decided to defrost when it feels like it and asks me to consume all the food immediately! I have wasted massive amounts of money on food and calls to hotpoint and have had a hotpoint engineer out to sort the problem about a year ago. It goes fine for a few months..then it defrosts all over again! Its just done it again, luckily I am not using the freezer anymore it only had some peas in there. Has anyone had this problem and solved it?? I would really like to use my freezer again but am loosing patience with hotpoint! I'd be very grateful for some advice.
Can you hear the compressor running? Is the fan inside the freezer running? It could be that a wire connection has come loose during the move. Was the fridge laid on it's side during the move? If so you probably have compressor oil restricting the refrigerant system. If compressor and fan are running you will probably need a qualified refrigeration tech to check it out.
if i read the english right, the compressor runs but the freezer fan only runs for a short time. no fan then no cooling.
there is a fan stat so that the fan only runs when the evap is down to temp. this may be faulty. also on some hotpoint, the fan switches off when door opened. check door switch operating ok. this may also explain problem with fridge lamp
