Mossberg 500, shell will not eject

When I attempt to eject a shell, the grips will not release it. In fact, they grip it so tight, I have to pry the shell out. The problem is the same whether the shell is spent or new. I am using Federal Multi-purpose load field and target shotshells. I taken the action apart and cleaned thoroughly but the problem remains. What am I missing?

Did you check the elevator to make sure its not applying the pressure on the cartridge interrupter and cartridge stop? or that one or both aren't damaged and over bent. the ejector slot on the bolt isn't damaged, or the action slide bars.

SOURCE: How do you load a

The loading port is on the bottom of the reciever. You mention that it is "magazine ready"? Mossberg shotguns have a tublular magazine underneath the barrel, surrounded by the action bar and front grip.

Loading the magazine entails holding the shotgun in one hand, taking the shell in the other with the folded end facing the front end of the barrel. Place the shell in the magazine opening (on the bottom) and push it up with your fingers and forward with the thumb of the same hand. It will go completely forward of the silver/blue lifter and stay there when you let go. (the action must be closed to load the magazine).

Alternately, you can open the action and pop a shell into the ejection port on the right side, close it back up, and shoot!

SOURCE: my model 742 lever action missfires every 3 or 4

This may be an indication of a broken firing pin, dirt in the firing pin channel, or an over oiled firing pin/channel. All will exhibit this behavior. A through cleaning is called for, with dis-assembly to follow for parts inspection.

I have also experienced this behavior from a weak hammer spring.

Find serial number

It should be stamped on there somewhere, possibly inside the grip or along the pump tube.

Mossberg 817 magazine

Not much can go wrong. Have you checked your extractor? If it's intact and not broken, try moving it with your thumbnail. Is it loose? That's a spring problem. If it's tight and intact, WITH THE BOLT OUT, try slipping a small diam wooden dowel down the barrel to see how hard it is to push a spent shell out. If it's tight, you've got a burr in the chamber or dirt/varnish buildup. Examine the shell for scratches. If the shell's good and no scratches, clean the chamber with a brass brush mounted in a drill.

Mossberg model 88 manual

Yep. The back end of a Mav 88 is identical to the Mossy 500. Same gun, after all. The front end, forearm is the only real diff accessory-wise. You'd need to buy a Mossy action tube (the forearm steel) to put a forearm on your Mav. Stock, yes....forearm, no.

Double feed on mossberg 500AB-12 guage

Push all the shells into the tube ALL THE WAY with the first half of your thumb. Try shooting it again. The most common "double feed/one drops onto the ground" is one shell not all the way forward of both stops in the mag tube. If it's only one stop, it drops to the ground. Second, if that didn't fix it, try stripping the gun and cleaning the slots the two stops rest in. Both have to be spotless without grit or the stops won't work right. Third, if both the others didn't fix it, email Mossberg and get replacement stops....someone "fitzing" the gun without knowing what the heck they were doing is the third most common fault in feeding. You can get them from Ebay cheaply but chances are they may be the bad ones someone else replaced.

Mossberg 88. after closing the bolt, sometimes the gun will not fire.. It makes a dull thud.. the gun is old but only got it out of the box this year and has about 250 rounds shot thru it.. It seems if...

Weak main spring. It's the back-most pin in the trigger group. The spring isn't moving fast enough to get the hammer past the half **** notch on the hammer. It's catching the sear. In a pinch, you can just jerk the trigger extra stout, no hesitation. If you have a decent stone, you can stone off the half **** notch on the hammer. The half **** is when you pull the trigger group out of the gun and hold the hammer lightly as you pull the trigger. The spot where the hammer locks straight up and down is the half **** notch. Current hammers don't have the half ****....it's simply not necessary. It was a redundant safety feature if the gun ever fell hard when cocked and chambered. It causes more probs than it fixes, though. You can replace your hammer with a new part....all of them fit including the Mossberg 500 lines....or you can stone the notch yourself....or you can replace the main spring. All will fix your prob.

Great gun, btw! I have one and love it!

I have a mossberg 835 ultra mag waterfowl and for some reason it doesn't want to feed shells into the chamber. Also, it wont eject them from the chamber sometimes. How do I fix this problem?

I'm beginning to hate this format. Answers out of order, answers on the wrong questions, questions skipped for months at a time.

Your 835, have you by any chance changed the forearm slide action tube? If you have and you used a model 500 tube, the 500 tube is about a half inch too short. It won't trip the stops on an 835 and you'll get the probs you are now. No feeds, no ejections. Try a real 835 slide tube.

What is the difference between a Mossberg 500 and a Mossberg 535 max 4.

The 535 is simply a slightly stretched model 500. It can chamber and fire 3.5" shells where the 500 will only handle up to 3" shells. The guns are identical in function and pretty much identical in parts except the stretched bits.

How do you load a 12 gauge pump action Mossberg (500)? There is no magazine for it, but, is mag ready. How do you manually load?

Overclocking em-500

1) Back up your device since we will be removing both batteries from your PocketPC. 2)Remove all 5 screws (4 in the back and one underneath the rubbery grip sticker on the side). NOTE: Be very careful with the sticker on the side. I just pried it up with my finger nail to get it started, but the adhesive part split off from the rubbery grip. I then had to pry up the adhesive part from the side of my EM-500. I got them back together in the end, so no harm done - just something to look out for.
