Ps2 laser My ps2 is freezing relly bad possibly scrached lense how can I fix this for free or cheap?

I bough ps2 with cracked after 3-4 days not working dvds are not read.
sometime it's working some dvds..
so plz solve my problem...

Okay, this is a REALLY common problem. It's more likely than not that dust is on your lens. Best bet is to buy a Laser Eye Cleaner disc and hope that fixes the problem. If not than you will have to contact sony. If your still under warranty they will fix it for free. if the warranty has expired, then they will charge you a repair fee

well if they are used they either have really bad scraches or fingerprints or it can just be both.But here is a really cheap suggestion to help u first if u dont have any carnuba car wax go buy some and put the wax on there then wait for a few min.then u wipe all of it offreally good till u cant see it no more and what that does the wax fills in the scraches and cleans away the fingerprints.

The game disc might be scrached, or smudged... look at the disc CAREFULLY and see. It might not be the disc, (try another one, and if that doesn't work) you'll have to (unplug it first) take the top cover off and look at the optical lense and see if it is scrached or smuged, (or dusty) If it is the disc (meaning another one works) then clean it with a COTON cloth and try that. or get a disc scratch remover (15 to 45 bucks) and use that. If it isn't the disc, Buy a new system ($$) or a new lense($$$$)

here is your solution. The New Laser lens has a solder blob added to keep static from destroying the laser diode. You will need to remove the laser once more and get some solder wick and a soldering gun. Look on the outer edge near the grooved edge and you will see a solder blob on a narrow strip of ribbon cable. You need to remove this solder to get your new laser to work. If you need pictures, google "PS2 Laser Solder blob" and you should get some links to pics.

Its a bad laser which can be bought online for cheap..
OR
take a q-tip and dip it in rubbing alc..
open the tray and swab the lense let dry for a min .. if it does not work then you need a new laser!

this is an easy fix. What the problem is, is your PS2's DVD reader is bad. You need to buy a replacement lense for it (KHS-400C lense). You can buy them off ebay for cheap:

This will fix your no reading problems

This is the most common problem with any ps2 the only thing you can try is cleaning the laser lense its best to use an actual lense cleaner in the form of a disk.
As it only reads compact disks this does mean your laser is on the way out but try cleaning lense and try again but you might find the problem remains.
The problem with you ps2 the slim one is that you cant adjust the laser the older bigger ps2 had a dial on the back of the laser tray that you could turn and adjust the height of the laser doing this got a couple more months usage out of the ps but the slimer one doesnt have this dial as they used newer lasers that couldnt be adjusted in anyway.
If cleaning doesnt make the ps2 any better then you need to replace the laser but the problem you have with this is if you buy a new laser its easy enough to fit yourself but buying a new laser means its going to need calibrating this isnt something you can do yourself unless you have an osciloscope to use on the board at test points these cost about $1000 to buy and if you get someone else to fit and calibrate they will charge more than the price of a new ps2 so its not financially worth doing.
The cheapest option is buying a second hand slimline ps2 that dont work but the laser is fine then you could transfer the laser without calibrating it but you need to be carefull and make sure the lasers are the same else it wont work at all.
Then the problem you will find is you do the repair then say 2 months down the line you get another problem this costing more money again.
What i would do but its upto you is just buy new ps2 knowing its working and is going to last a while the new ones now have better lasers and seem to last for ages ive had mine for years now and had no problem.
But i have got a slimline ps2 that dont work with same problem but what ill do is keep checking auction sites untill i can pick up cheap ps2 that dont work and replace any parts i need you can usually by damaged ps2 for about £10 including delivery but i repair them and sell them to make a bit of money but as you only want maybe one then theirs a risk involved not knowing if its going to work after the repair i suggest buy new one.

does it still read the disk you was playing or not if it dont then you could buy a lense cleaner put this into you ps2 and then after it has cleaned the lense try your games again you can buy these really cheap and they are just a disk with little brushes onn that cleans the lense in anything that takes disks if this dont solve the problem and the ps2 dont play any disk at all then the laser will need replacing you can replace it yourself but it will need to be recalibrated witch is something a pro must do as not doing this will stop it reading any disk but you only get this prob if you buy new laser you can get second hand ones but you never no if they are working or not hope this is some help to you
