I seem to have a problem with my sound key. It will turn down the volume (heck, it's stuck at zero), but it won't go up. I've been using this player for about 6 months or so, and about 3 months ago it started having sound problems. Sometimes it took a light brush or even a gentle jostle to turn the volume down partially or often all the way, and other days it was a wrestle to turn it down. Now it's broken on the side that turns the volume up too, and I can't change the sound no matter how hard I try. It seems my key sunk into the player!

If volume bar is presented continuously, the TV is in a continuous command volume down state. Could be volume down button down stuck on TV, or possibly remote, or some other device capable of emulating a remote is issuing command volume down. Or control logic in TV has failed with this unusual result.
This is going to sound really stupid, but if I was just having the exact same problem as you. I launched the Razer Synapse 2.0 program and save that my up key had a macro that did nothing. Once I changed that back to the default single up key function, it seems to be working fine.
Right click on the Speakers/Headphones icon on the lower right of your screen and select "Troubleshoot sound problems". Windows 10 will repair it for you.
* The sound is muted or turned down to zero. (This can often be controlled from the keyboard; for Windows 7, try the control panel > sound > adjust system volume).
* Speakers aren't connected, are turned off or are set to zero volume.
Have you tried changing the Auto Standby switch to ON?
You can prove if the sub amp will respond to a known good input by TURNING ITS VOLUME DOWN tp start and just feeding it ANY RCA output from the receiver while playing, say, FM (to keep it simple). That way you would known in which direction the problem actually lies (internal or external).
See if the minus volume button on the TV is stuck. With the TV off press the various buttons while keeping your ears close to them. Each will produce a distinct click when you press them, confirm if the volume - key also produces the same sound - if not the key is defective or stuck.

It sounds like the button is stuck. Take the remote apart if you can and see if the key is stuck somewhere. This happened to me once with a rubber key type of remote. It drove me crazy.
This will sound strange, but some DVD players and cable boxes have separate volume controls. I would check the settings for both of those to make sure that the volume has not been turned down and also check the connections from the dvd player and cable box to the tv. Make sure all connections are solid.
