Well, some hardware can be defective. you should not have to hooked your scanner up, it should be already done. so i would take it back and just get a new one.

Do you have the manual? The scanner may need to be calibrated first. Use the software package it came with to do this OR You can download it here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?os=228&softwareitem=35804&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=216827&lang=en&printable=no Ray

I have installed the UE 404090, but cannot scan to my PC. It says no twain compliant found. If I press scan/file on the machine it says select destination _ what can I do there?

Hi,

Have you at some point installed a second scanning device on the system..

Reason being TWAIN is configured slightly different by every manufacturer to optomise the working of their hardware.

It some cases when you install a TWAIN device for Scanner A this can interfere with Scanner B
Usually its because your trying to use TWAIN(scanner A) on Scanner B

Make sense?

Make sure (if you have installed another scanner device) that you are using the TWAIN software that came with .

You might need to reinstall the entire set up from beginning.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

I just installed a (new out of the box) HP LaserJet 3380 All-In-One printer/fax/scanner. I have NOT set up the fax function (no telephone line available). The unit is connected to my computer with a USB...

WHen you open the scan application and get to the point just before you scan... open at the top menu "File" and request to "Save As" and give it the "Name.BMP" see if that helps..
You named the folder but you did not mention naming the file you want to save????

Compaq S4 100 scanner won't work with new computer on MS Vista

I went to compaq's support site and got the XP drivers here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=217323

I installed the drivers first S4-100 Color USB Scanner Drivers for Windows XP

Then installed the application: Vistascan Support Software Module for the Compaq S4-100 Scanner

*be sure all your "Windows Updates" are up to date.

Once installed I had to go to the default directory C:\VistaScan to find the .exe file. The software booted right up! But, it said the device was not on. I simply pulled the USB out and put it back in and it worked perfectly.

I imagine you might have to start up vista scan and pull the USB cord in and out every time you reboot your machine, which is kinda a cheap work around. However, it is a way to "give it to the man"!! and I like that idea ;)

Compaq A3000 Drivers won't install in Windows XP Home

Ths looks like a not properly removed software. What you can do is to remove the software manually by removing all the files and registry keys. But do this at your own risk. I suggest that you do a backup of your computer first
