Where do i Find the heating element on my wd640 washer dryer
I am unable to find a wiring diagram for my hotpoint wd640. The machine is working fine just not drying my clothes. It goes through the normal cycle etc. think its the heating element but where is it hidden?
Re: where do i Find the heating element on my wd640...
On top of the drum there is a metal dryer box. the heating element is connected by 2 wires.
it maybe that a build up of lint has tripped your thermal wire out or the thermistor,(you will have to test the continuity).

its more likely to be thermo stat if you take off the lid you will see the dryer unit on top of that there are 2 little round objects with 2 wires on each they are held in with little metal springs if you buy a thermostat kit they are easy to change

F01 on a
Washer Dryer means you have a motor fault. Check the motor and associated
wiring. You may just have a broken wire. Click on the link for more Hotpoint,
Creda and Indesit error
codes. Or use these links for WMA & WM workshop
manuals.
Before you replace dryer element, how do you now it is bad and what tells you it is the element and not 3 or 4 other items that could stop the element from heating? If oyu tested the element directly (and this of course is nearly the only way to know if it is bad) then you obviously has access to it and should see what is involved in removing it. So, I believe you do not actually know if the element is bad. You need to search and test all the controlling items that allow the element to heat before condemning it. I believe you need a skilled service person. Goodluck, macgivor
Check the resistance of the heating element it should be anywhere between 0.6 OHMS to 26.7 OHMS. Then make sure the thermal fuse is not blown. Resistance between it's terminals equals to 0.0 OHM
The dryer fan or dryer thermistor (thermostat) is faulty.
If the fan is working, then replace the thermistor, or check for broken wire.

Thanks.
both the 'wash' & the 'dryer' have their own heating elements, If the 'wash' completes its full cycle including 'spin', then I suspect this heat element is ok.Re the dryer, most likely the heat element circuit is 'open circuit' somewhere, could be the element, thermal fuse, thermostat, or a wire burned out
Hi, I have a Hotpoint WD640 myself and funnily enough I have the same problem.
Knowing a tiny bit about washing machines you will probably find that your heating element from the dryer has stopped working.
If you can still wash clothes that means that your other heating element for the washing is fine and that your thermostat for the machine is also working.
If you need to buy a dryer component may I suggest 4hotpoint.co.uk, I have just bought an element from them and it cost me £27.99 including tax and P&P.
May I also suggest that you get a suitably qualified or competant (not saying that you are not) person to fit the element for you as you do not want anything to go wrong with your washing machine.
Hope this helps :o)
