I've just moved in the US bringing in my home European VCR JVC HR-J437MS VCR, and trying connecting it to Toshiba Digital TV. I tried using RGB and the COX cable, both with same poor results - I can hear the tape, but see it on B&W skipping pikture. What should I do to adjust my VCR to teh NTSC TV system? Thanks! Zohar
Zohar, You must remember that various regions in the world have different Broadcast systems. TVs and VCRs are manufactured for playback and Recording in different regions. But, while the JVC HR - J 437MS is a Multi System VCR as far as Playback is concerned, It has only a PAL Tuner. So , while you can watch NTSC Tapes, you cannot tune a NTSC Broadcast through its tuner, and watch on your TV. You will only get a B&W picture. To atleast view NTSC Tapes, use the Remote of the VCR, and set System to AUTO or NTSC. Again, there are 2 versions of NTSC - the 3.58 and the 4.43 ones. Certain regions of the US broadcast in NTSC 3.58, and some in NTSC 4.43. So select carefully, Similarly, bring up the TV menu, and select AUTO or NTSC for TV reception. Now you will be able to view American broadcasts in color. But I suggest you set System to AUTO, as then you can watch your earlier Tapes collection from Europe also. As for connections, it is fairly simple. I am uncertain if your VCR has a 21 pin euroconnector (SCART)but it is unlikely. You will be having Audio L and Audio R out ockets at the rear of the VCR, alongwith Video Out socket. Just connect suitable RCA cables from these OUT sockets to the Video and Audio IN (L) and Audio IN (R) siockets on the TV. select AV input, and you are ready. check it out. 99% it will be work out.

Sorry, You will be able to view Tapes in the US - Rented or purchased - in color.
Dear Zohar,
I preume your TV is a Multi System TV? Please check. if it is not, then you cannot watch PAL tapes on your TV.
Picture rolling is due to incompatibility between PAL Vertical frequency - 50Hz, and NTSC vertical frequency, which is 60Hz.
Some of the earlier TVs used to have a vertical Hold control at the rear. If your TV has that, then use it to stop the rolling.
One other possibility because of which you are not able to view your Tapes properly could be Dirty Video Heads. Clean them with a good 'Wet Type' Cleaning Cassette.
Best of Luck.

Hi Pravin,
reading your answer bellow, still some issues remain.
1) I can not see any tape I have. it's not that I see a B&B clear picture, but the pictur is running upside down the screen rapidly.
I understood there is only PAL tuner on my VCR to enable me fine tune PAL broadcast only.
What should I do to see my PAL tapes on the VCR while connected to NTSC TV?
When setting the VCR to NTSC, I hear the tape audio track running very fast whith no pic at all. when setting it to auto or PAL, I can hear OK, but with no picture at all.
Thanks,
Zohar
the solution was not helpful and I do not require further assistance.
