I have a large yellow spot on my screen which looks black against the blue backlight which is covering 50 percent of screen now and is unwatchable. Any ideas what's up. Don't want to waste money on a bulb if that's not the issue.

If spot is light ( like a clouds ) then probelm is with dust .if is dark then LCD panel is faulty.pl conatc your nearest service centre

This is probably the polarizing filter. It will need to be replaced. It should not cost very much to fix.

I also have the same problem -- the fix is to replace the optical block ( Internal lamp engine ) which is a $1,100 part. I just purchased a used projector for half the price of the part.

reset the settings to factory default and change your cable. if that doesn't help, the polarizer filter on the blue lcd panel is fried due to excessive dust and heat. the optical engine will need to be replaced.
