My Samsung SH-M522C CDRW/DVD ROM drive doesn't read any DVD's.
It reads CD's and I am able to burn them too, but it simply doesn't recognize any DVD's. Sometimes immediately after booting or coming out of Hibernate mode, I am able to open data DVD's for a few minutes before (maybe) the ROM heats up, and then the drive simply causes the computer to hang and refuses to read anything more. Please help!
PS: I've noticed that it never reads blue disks and that the disks are really warm when I take them out of the drive.
Note: I actually believe that the problem is with the drive heating up or something, because immediately after turning on the computer in the morning, the drive reads DVD's for a few minutes, then it stops recognizing the disks and I have to sit frustrated all day, Also, when it's not working, theres this strange jarring 'ghhhht ghhhht' sound from the drive. Buying's not an option for the moment, is there anything else that can be done? Please help!!! Rajan PS ive already tried uninstalling the drive, no response... any other bright ideas??Note: I actually believe that the problem is with the drive heating up or something, because immediately after turning on the computer in the morning, the drive reads DVD's for a few minutes, then it stops recognizing the disks and I have to sit frustrated all day, Also, when it's not working, theres this strange jarring 'ghhhht ghhhht' sound from the drive. Re:
The blue you are refering to is the dye on the disc, sometimes it's purple, normally the darker the better, but it's down to the individual writer and what disc it is compatable with, but your writers problem is all too common, as in my opionion the lasers that are being fitted in writers are of poorer quality than in the earlier days to enable the prices to become lower.
You can try one thing, but it doesnt always work; go to my computer>right click>hardware tab>device manager, then down list to cd/dvd drives and click '+' sign and highlight your writer, right click on it and select uninstall.
Restart PC and it will be automatically re installed, try again and if no change you will need to replace the drive as they are cheaper nowadays

how old is you combo drive?all dvd drives have limitation on using it.in specially in burning..if you reach the number of burning the bulb or the lead will be dead..you need to buy a new one..
try to run the Microsoft Fix it option to delete the upper and lower filters and if this does not work, update the firmware and try to use a lens cleaner. if nothing works including system restore, it might be time to get a new drive. hope this helps
You could pay a qualified technician $25 to $50 to try to trouble-shoot the problem, or you could buy a brand-new CD/DVD reader/writer for $40, to replace your "failing" device.
This is becaz of the lens which is used to read the data frm the Disc. The weak (not damaged) lens may read CD but no DVD.
Try changing the lens........
Please do the followings steps:
First check other dvd are able to read by your dvd drive if yes the your dvd drive is not compatible with the mentioned DVD+R M33-8067 disc
Second if your drive is not able to read other dvd discs then try to clean it by good quality lens cleaner available in the market
If still problem persist then you have to change your DVD drive .
